At any truck stop, there'll be several publications available.. Truck Job Seekers, Drivers Connection.. take a look in those, particularly the ones which say "no hazmat". Additionally, do a forum search.. I remember seeing a thread called "Felony Friendly Companies", but I can't recall offhand exactly where it was. You'll probably find some information there.

You are going to find its very hard to get work as a felon in trucking, especially if a company is FAST and CTPAT approved.

It's not so much that you will have a trouble finding a company that will take you because you have a felony so much as that one offense is drug related, which is a MAJOR liability risk since insurance agencies who insure trucking companies will increase the premium, if not completely discontinue service with the company upon hiring you.

The theft is also a major issue because if it was enough to be a felony it means you are yet again a liability as you could be hauling potentionally millions of dollars per load of equipment, product, ect that someone with a history of theft may steal, or attempt to steal and in the process damage the items. This is also a major issue from an insurance standpoint.

Basically you have a double edges sword pointed at you from the two convictions. Where they may have looked past one, you have yet another offense that will inhibit you from employment with any trucking company.

My mother is an insurance underwriter for Nationwide and she has been at the game, insuring or denying companies like transportation businesses for over 20 years. These two offenses are exactly the kind that will make an insurance agency drop an entire company over just one employees record.

I'm very sorry, but to be perfectly honest with you, no reputable company, that is, a company who will pay you appropriately, not steal your miles, and provide insurance or anything you would expect will hire you. Now, you COULD get a job driving for a crappy company, but you will not get approved for sponsored training and the expense of school, on average all $12,000, will fall entirely on you.

I suggest just looking for a local distribution center that uses only box trucks below the weight requiring a CDL. I live near Detroit and I see a lot of those.

because everyone on this site thinks they know everything and that trucking is like brain surgery. you'll be fine. just leave it off your app. I've hauled hazardous waste and pulled every kind of trailer other then tanker, and it's never come up once. You'll see every post after this is people saying what horrible advice it is and all the bad things that will happen to you and your family, blah blah blah. At the end of the day don't worry too much about it, alot of companies don't check into you very much.

I was a recruiter/supervisor for Penske Logistics some years back and this question comes up more often that one would think. Our company policy was to examine each on a case by case basis. If we had more applicants than positions, felony conviction would eliminate you. But, if we really needed drivers, you would still be in the running, providing that your driving/work record was squeeky clean.
My suggestion is to try smaller companies, be totally up front about it, try to talk to the owner or higher level management, no just the grunt taking the application.
If your work/driving history is spotty, don't even bother.

Your advice is very dangerous. If they ask on an application which most do DONT lie. You may think they don't check and some might not but if they do, and it's easy to find, the trucking career is over. You'll be labeled as a liar and I sure wouldn't risk my future on some message on the computer. I think you full of it when you say it never has come up. Every application I've filled out over the pass 20 years has always asked if you've been arrested and so forth. So I don't know where you've been working but it must have been some real fly by night companies. Bad, Bad, Advice.

If you have 2 numbers in the States you can't get an expungement, the State won't go for it. But a person can get a truck driving job with a record it's just not as easy. Look around. Good Luck! If you have turned your life around believe this,God didn't bring you this far just to kick you to the curb.
