Many 18 wheeler trailers have big bold lettering with the words "Air Ride Equipped". Is this something special that not all trucks have? I suspect it is the latest technology that is standard equipment...much in the same as putting "Color TV" on the box of a television set as if that is something special these days.
What exactly is "Air Ride Equipped"

what it means, is the trailer(s) are equipped with air-ride suspension. in other words it assures their customers that their cargo doesn't come in pieces due to road vibration that a leaf spring suspension would give to the contents of the trailer.
-
... as opposed to a spring ride suspension, which is still pretty commonplace in a lot of trailers.
-
Thanks for the reposnes. Do shippers ever specify "Air ride" for fragile cargo? Also, can somebody provide a rough estimate of the percentage of new trailers that have Air ride suspension?
-
Approximately 37.314159265% have air ride suspension.

U4EA Thanks this.

There is no way to put a percentage on the air ride versus spring ride trailers that are still operational on today's highway.
If I had to guess, I'd say 80% of the trailers are now air ride & have been for several years.JimDriv3r and Diesel Blues Thank this. -
Used to be years ago, air ride was a rare setup
Spring ride being the norm.
When customers wanted air ride on trk and trl. they paid a extra charge for it
Now it's so common they just get if for free like to much other stuff in this bussiness
