My company has us either throw it away, give it away/donate, bring it back to the shipper, or they find another customer who wants it.
Depends on what the problem is and what the customer wants.
I like it when they tell me to throw it away... Usually means I get to fill my fridge if it's edible. -
I've been told to "dispose of it" To me that means pack as much in the sleeper as I can and give/trade/sell the rest at the nearest truck stop. I've never had enough to justify finding a local food cupboard.
years ago we had a Wally-reefer roll over just a little out the gate, they flipped her back right side up and then we ate like pigs for a couple of weekskeepntruckin Thanks this. -
My wifes uncle recently got to keep a case of industrial paper towels, the brown kind. I have 2 rolls in the truck right now.

The best ones were IBP loads to Mexico. If the forwarder found a case that wasn't labeled in Spanish, they would reject it. IBP didn't want to bother so they would say driver dispose. We had a BBQ once at the Stevens drop yard in Laredo thanks to a rejected 80 lb case of IBP steaks.
runawayload Thanks this. -
At Chippewa Motor Freight, overages and damage were kept in a cage on the dock until Christmas. Then, they were distributed to employees.

I had an entire pallet of Winn-Dixie egg noodles rejected once. My company said I could keep the product and I emptied at their Jax, FL DC. I deadheaded home to central Florida and we had noodles for 2 years afterwards

Roadway / Yellow (YRC) send damaged freight, that the shipper wont take back, to a few sompany owned salvage stores where it is sold in a retail enviornment. The one in Akron Ohio is REX (roadway express) salvage. They have some great deal, if you want to deal with the crazy shoppers.
Big Don Thanks this.
