Hey everybody, I just have a few questions about where you stop when you're on the road.

What brand of gas stations/travel centers do you usually stop at? Do you always stop at ones of the same company or do you switch it up sometimes? What determines where and when you stop? When you do stop, what types of activities do you do (e.g. eat, weigh, gas up, buy snacks, shower, etc.)? What do you like most about these travel centers?

For those of you that usually stop at Pilots, why do you? Do they offer anything there specifically that you like? What draws you there over other places?

I'm really just looking for any and all info that you could provide. Thanks so much!

Eating and gassing up go hand in hand at truckstops. I usually avoid Pilots like the plague.

I avoid Pilot truckstop almost religiously. The American truckstop use to be the best places to get great quality food / service at reasonable prices. Pilot and Wilco putting in fast food joints is not a good thing. When I'm on the road, truckstops are there to use as a resting place. Sit down, relax and enjoy something to eat. Fast food joints just wanna get your money the send ya on your way.. NOT for ME!

I much prefer an independent, Mom & Pop, type establishment. You know the place I'm talking about. You float in on the aroma of home cooked cholesterol, and the cheesy greaseburgers are thick and juicy.

Anybody can (and does) sell diesel fuel, but without the ambiance of an ol' school truck stop, you may as well be at a Seven-Eleven store.

With that said, the Pilots, Wilcos, and Loves serve their purpose. Cheap fuel (in places), a quick shower, a good cup of coffee, and if you make reservations you may find a place to park for a while. Besides, on some occasions, a bag full of 99 cent double cheeseburgers, fries, and a chocolate shake are pretty good to eat while making another leg of a trip.

There are logistics to consider, as well. If you're required to drive from point "A" to point "B", and a Pilot is the only place near point "B", then Pilot it is. Get used to it.

My company's fuel network consists of only one choice:pilot. So, I get my fuel there, I stop there for showers too. That being said, once those activities are done, I will sometimes move along to get to a better truckstop. And sometimes, even though I have that free shower, I will pay for one at a different T/S because I have no interest in going to the Pilot.
Typically, I just relax,do some window shopping, then chill out in the truck.

    sbv Thanks this.

:biggrin_25525: the company i work for uses only pilot. they seem to have a deal going on with them. i really don't think they are saving anything. wish i could use TA instead.

I prefer the independent stops. Not so crowded and usually always clean. If it's got a nice driver lounge with a TV, I'll write it down in my journel so the next time I go through there, I'll remember where it is.An important thing for me is a roomy, and clean restroom as well cause alot of times i'll want to freshen up from the road, but don,t necessarilly need a full shower treatment. There's nothing better than after driving for 10 hours, to be able to stop and clean up and rest your arse in a nice comfy chair or couch and watch some #### tube before going to sleep. AHHHHHH!!!!! The bigger truck stops like T/A, Petro, Bosselman's, etc., are always nice for a break, but at the end of a long road day, the smaller more quiet ones are for me.

If I can get away with it I always stop at the Walmart Supercenters.

I don't eat out and live out of two coolers so I like being able to go grocery shopping on my 10.
