Hi, I'm not actually interested in trucking or anything like that. I'm actually on here trying to get some information for my dad. He has been in prison for quite a few years with a felony and he comes up for parole in a couple of years and he is interested in getting into trucking because he has come across quite a few other prisoners that have/had careers in trucking and it sounds like a promising career for someone like him. We are looking in the ArkLaTex region. If anyone knows any helpful information please do respond. Were looking for a place that accepts felons, has the opportunity for financial aid, possible room & board, paid training. Whatever is the most helpful because he will be coming back into the real world after about 20 years. (He's in his early 40's) ANY HELPFUL INFORMATION WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.
Have any felons gotten any trucking jobs?

Depending on what the felony was. 20 years locked up is a long time and probably a pretty bad charge. Many carriers will pass on a guy fresh out of prison.
-
A lot of it depends on what the felony is for and how long ago its been. Give recruiter a call!

Don't worry, he can be a trucker. The trucking world is huge in America and there's a niche for most of us. He will need to attend CDL school, so plan for that. The community college CDL schools are cheapest and as good as any other. The unemployment office in some states has tuition help for CDL school. His choices for trucking companies will be limited, but he will find employment. 3 1/2 million truckers in America, so there's room for your dad.
SheepDog Thanks this. -
A felon can get a trucking job, just not one that requires a hazmat endorsement, which a felon CANNOT get. Many of the OTR box freight outfits go into Canada which also rules felons out.
A local job running a dump truck of something may be their best bet.SheepDog, Chinatown and joseph1135 Thank this. -
Woah!!! Look who returned!!!

Many Felons can get a hazmat.
Certain rules apply.

I wish I could say I remember you though. -
