Hey there everybody im going to be getting into daycab trucking since i cant do sleeper since im only 18. I was looking around for daycab jobs with no experience just so see what pops up and i did not really find anything besides for sleeper. And im also wandering what kind of trucking i should get into? (flatbed, normal trailer, tanker, heavy hauling). I want something that will pay good and hire out of school drivers. Any answers would help! Have a safe day truckers!

A lot of companies will hire unexpetianced local drivers. Nearly no companies will hire an 18 year old. If anyone offers you a job take it

Household goods movers hire 18 yr. old drivers as driver helpers plus loading and unloading.

I'd recommend flatbed, reefer, or tanker. Get all of your endorsements the first time out of school. Don't expect a big wage starting out but don't low ball yourself either. Bunch of good companies out there hiring recent graduates.

At your age, get a forklift certificate and start with a job at a companies loading dock if you can. Gives you the ability to work days or night shifts and get a feel for the logistics side of things. You will not find a job in a truck at your age unless you can find a mom and pop company to work for and do local runs.

Also look into dump trucks, cement trucks and garbage trucks. All of those are local and require a CDL

Getting on with one of those type companies isn't as easy as you may think. Not here anyway.Insurance companies are making it harder and harder for companies to hire the drivers they need.

I drove OTR for a year and a half and quit when my pops died, took me over 6 months to find a local job. local companies do a lot of city driving, and want experience before hire. Your age might hinder you but if you keep looking and the lords willing you will find what you need. good luck.

Have you tried looking into overseas govt CDL jobs? You could also enlist in the military for a few years and drive semi's. It's called MOS 88M (Army). Check out some oil field trucking companies. You could do "hotshot" work until you're 21. Just some thoughts. Good luck out there.

Try getting on at FedEx Freight as a dock worker. I don't know at what age they'll let you start driving, but they will train you when that day comes. You'll pay only for the license itself, and probably the permit. The drivers for them who I've spoken with have been with them a long time, love it, and are making good money.
