Do trucking companies need websites? I am running a web design business and I want to help out the trucking industry.

If a website helps a trucking company get more business then I'd like to know so that I can help.

Thanks for being the silent heroes of the USA. If it weren't for truckers things would look way different in America.

    pattyj Thanks this.

    Nobody *needs* a website.
It's more a matter of whether or not a business *wants* a website to develop a web presence and make themselves much easier to find by both possible employees and possible customers.

Honestly, the only thing I could suggest is to look for trucking companies via an nationwide business directory, like the yellow pages, then look them up on google to see if they have a website. If you can't find one then call them up via the phone number from the business directory and ask them if they are interested in having you develop a site for them.

It would be a horrendously slow process of finding them, but possibly the easiest way to find a company without a website would be to look in an old fashioned directory to find the company name so you can see if it has a site.

Thanks for the quick reply :) Yes before I do something like that I want to make sure that trucking companies could greatly benefit from having a website. For some types of companies it's just a nice-to-have. For others, it really makes a huge difference in their prosperity and therefore can be classified as a "need". I'm wondering if a website makes a huge difference for trucking companies.

I think a web presence is pretty important for recruitment purposes. In this day and age the first thing a prospective employee is going to do is check out your website for info.

I think most of the larger companies are going to have an in-house IT department that handles all web related matters, but smaller companies could definitely use webmaster services.
