Have been wondering about something... we were heading to Ft. Benning in our Bago to attend basic graduation a couple of years ago and, because of mechanical problems, were running about 12 hours behind. We made it as far as the truck stop south of Champaign, IL before Ratchet had to get some sleep. When we have the toad on we're about 53' long and it's kind of tough finding somewhere to stop for a rest, so... we pulled in next to a reefer for a few hours.
We stay in the rv when we have to do something like this, keep our lights off and, unless we're next to a reefer, don't run the generator.
Ratchet says he doesn't mind sharing with recreational vehicles as long as they mind their manners.
What is the general consensus about this? Does this annoy drivers and what other suggestions for rvers are there?

Hello , It has never bothered me to see a long RV parking where we can go as long as it is not a 4 wheeler or smaller RV that can park elsewhere as well .

Hope this helps you . Be safe and enjoy your trip ..

It's probably weird, but I feel safer parked in amongst the big rigs.

Don't pull in blocking two spaces and run both slide outs out.

I pulled in next to a guy that was just planning on doing this very thing. Only thing is I got there right when he started his slide. After seeing my truck there he gave it up. I didn't trust him tho and wrote down his plate number just in case he tried any funny business and I found my truck dented in.

Some people are just idiots, aren't they?

(we don't even have any slideouts, darn it. ours is an '88 and not the least bit fancy.)

I gotta second everyone else and agree, I have no problem with RV's parking in a truck stop. But it might not be a bad idea to keep your marker lights on, esp if your rig is shorter than the trucks you are parked between (or next to). You don't need to get clobbered by some sleepy driver trying to back into what he/she thinks is an empty spot! And if the trucks next to you are idling (or running APU/generators) then you shouldn't worry about running your genset.

Actually, I made notes of the vehicles parked next to me when I went to bed. This was the result of being woke up by a truck that took my mirror off.

Well I guess I am alone in the feeling of annoyance when I see an rv parked in a truck stop. Then again I get annoyed when I see a bobtail taking up an entire parking spot especially when we have so much limited parking space now for tractor trailers.

My point is this; Rvers have rv parks and camp grounds to go to. Please use them. We are not allowed in an rv park or campground to get our rest.
Legitimate parking spots for big trucks are severely limited out here already. Truck stops (as well as rest areas) are closing each year causing a parking shortage for big trucks to get worse. Having "John and Mary" in their rv encroaching into the truckstop parking areas and lots is simply making it tougher for the tired truck drivers to get a legitimate parking spot for their 10 hour break. Remember folks we are working out here while you are on "vacation."

Oh no, you most definately are NOT alone here. I'm sorry folks, but it just is not right to be taking up space in truck stops unless you are a commercial rig. This is (or in my case it WAS,) our livelyhood, and we push hard. To come into a truck stop tired and find that RV's have taken up all the parking spots is just depressing. Go find a campground.

How about the commercial haulers of rv's, they can't go to campgrounds?

Also, alot of trucks are now parking in the rv spots in the front.
