    Hello folks

We will be travelling from Wash DC to Hartford, CT in a few weeks, via car, and would like to know the best route for getting thru the NYC area. Less traffic is better.

Also, we may try to drive on a Sunday if this will help keep traffic down.

    Thanks

The shortest route would be I-95 N thru Md & De, then Del Mem Bridge into NJ, NJ turnpike to Geo Washington bridge, thru NY on I-95 North (only 24 miles in NY) I-95 north to New Haven, Ct and then I-91 north into Hartford.

A longer, but maybe less congested route would be I-95 N to Baltimore, I-695 N to I-83N into Pa to I-81 North to Scranton, Pa to I-84 East thru NY, into Ct follow I-84 E to Hartford. Less tolls this way too, but I think it would add 80 miles to the trip.

Shouldn't be too bad on a Sunday, have a safe trip!

wel if your going to be leaving on sunday, then you should do just fine going through ny,
however, if you dont wanna go that way, then, ill suggst this to you, and this is how i do it, however i am in a t/t
i go this way anytime im going to ct. nh, vt, or mass
i run 95n to the NJTP, cross the del. mem. bridge
and youll stay to the left to the NJTP n, to 287n, 287n to 87n into NY, once you pay the toll in NY, conintue N on 87, to exit 17, and pick up 84E towrds boston/hartford. and 84 will run right into the middle hartford.
or, just take 95n to 91n in connecticut, run 91n again right to hartford,
thats how i would do it, i go the long way during peak hours, or if im running NE, ill go right up 95 no earlier then 8pm, and no latetr then 6am.
    good luck

I would suggest you leave about 2 AM. That should get you through the Bronx before the traffic gets ugly.
