My cousin used to drive the transport for the Remax pickup team. When at the track he was kind of a gopher but never missed a race, with full pit crendentials. When Remax sold the team he went to work driving the speed channel mobile studio. Still never missed a race even if he watched it on the big screen in the trailer. He said that was the best seat in the house. Still works for them but doesn't get out on the road as much now. Mostly works around the studio. He sure got a lot of attention in either truck.

I used to work for a manufacturer of the Nascar type transporter trailers. What a fun gig that was. Anyhow, we built a few trailers for one of the snowmobile manufacturers factory sno-cross race teams. I got to know the driver of one of the rigs and would spend weekends out at the tracks wherever the races were that weekend. Since the races were during winter months, first thing he would do when he parked in the pits was wash and clean the truck and trailer. 30 below or not, he would be on ladders, wiping, polishing, making it look spectacular. After all, your half-million dollar rolling billboard better look good when ESPN flashes it on TV. When he wasn't cleaning, he was cooking food in the lounge for the team members and racers, organizing the shop area, cheering on from the stands, pretty much doing anything and everything. He loved it though and was paid well. He drove solo, and I'm not sure about HOS. He did tell me once that when he would get stopped for speeding, he always had cases of hats, shirts and other merchandise autographed and ready to give to the officers to let him keep rolling. I'd love to find a gig like that for myself...and I imagine they have to be teams today to cover the miles in time.

I was offered a job by a drag racing team under two conditions. 1- I had to have my CDL, which at the time I did not. 2- I had to graduate and get the degree I was after, which I finally did. I did not take them up on the offer. Although a friend from college did and now works on the Ron Capps drag racing team working on the back end of the car and driving the semi.
