correct, lots of drivers get confused on the pre trip though. just a requirement to do the inspection, not a written one. the written one is POST trip.

The pre trip insepection requirement in Michigan is required to be written. The post trip is NOT required. Now again, this is driving without a CDl (F) and a non commercial vehicle that is plates as something else....farm truck, special truck, etc.

I dunno the website but that is what it says in the back of the Missouri CDL Handbook. Personal use, farm use within a range limit, and firemen are not required to have a cdl. That won't stop them from dragging someone into court or anything though, I'm sure, and it doesn't mention logging. -
Weigh stations not only check weight, but registration as well. When you bobtail thru the scale, they be checking your registration. Normally, only cargo capable commercial vehicles need to enter the scale and use a log book. Farmer Fred hauling his own horses need not stop. A commercial horse transport outfit does. A nice Pete power unit with 40' of living space as in RV, need not stop. He will have passenger car registration as well.

I happened to hear of someone I know getting stopped for bypassing a scale. He somehow modified his truck (put a toilet it) to register it as an RV, and (as ridiculous as it looks) pulls a gooseneck horsetrailer with it. Bypassed the MI scales not far from here and the DOT didn't like it. Wrote him up for not having a med card, not having a CDL, and ripped up his RV registration. In court, he had the charges thrown out, but apparently he does have to stop at scales because of the registered weight (though he's convinced that anything with dualies needs to stop). It's not going to hurt you to roll through the scales, and I'd recommend doing so even if you can legally bypass.
