I was just wondering if I would have to go to truck driving school all over again if I decided I wanted to drive. I went to school back in 1977 and only made a couple of trips with an independent company after that and decided it wasn't for me. Haven't driven a truck since. So, I was just thinking about it and wondering.

Yeap, heck cant even get in a rig if your been out of one after 90 days,so yes you do need schooling again. -
32 year hiatus pretty much means no experience. Things have changed sooooo much in that time. So, yeah, you're gonna hafta go back to school. The last time I changed jobs I spent about three months either driving straight trucks (tractor trailer here and there but not much) or out on worker's comp. Total time out of a big truck was about a month and a half or so. Didn't have any trouble finding work but even so it still took a little bit of getting used to all over again.

After driving OTR for 13 years, I've been out of the truck pursuing my old aviation dream for the last five years.
Oops. Though I'm a good, experienced driver who takes good care of the equipment, insurance rules have me mostly locked out of the industry. I'm still clinging to a couple options, but they're generally less-than-reputable.
Even the Noob-mills aren't interested in an experienced driver in my position, which really sucks.
I'm still holding out hope that a small outlaw-ish trucking outfit could use my services, if only long enough to get my recent experience back. -
The n00b mills don't want you because they're afraid you know more than their top instructors!

You can look into companys that offer cdl training programs. I drive for Watkins Shepard and they have a 30 day program available. There have a terminal in conover NC and are hiring people. You can find posts on here from people who are in the program and telling about their experience.
Good luck. -
If you didnt like it back in the "good, old days", you are going to hate it now!!! Why would anyone want to get back in after being out for 32 years???
