Threes a place on Denver that still ships swinging as well. Just not many people left that haul it and most times I have it goes to New York either Manhattan or hunts point.

    Warrior,
Please post the link as a reply in this forum. I've inherited a couple of railers that I would love to get rid of.

I know freight that goes out west sucks as far as pay... we get paid percentage and we usually triple what we make going back East to states such as Virginia/NC/MD/NY/NY/PA coming from SD/MN/IA/NE/ND...

IMO Kansas sucks for rates, well at least the rates my company pulls for..

I disagree with this. First, very often Brokers can't find a truck and post, and then repost, their loads hoping someone will call and take what they foolishly committed themselves to in terms of load price. They are trying to market their game, so to speak, so in that sense I agree.

But, their so-called "reliable guys" are all over the nation, and not at the place they need them. I often get calls to pick up loads when I'm thousands of miles away. So, brokers do have to resort to posting into the marketplace, which is what the load boards offer.

Now, I recommend NOT calling in the morning, unless you are in a dead zone and need to get the truck moving at whatever price. It's better to post your truck the day or so before and then wait for the brokers to call YOU. Brokers who call you, need you, and will be forced to pay market, or even above market, prices. In a hot agricultural zone where a large supply of trucks are needed provides the independent owner-operatore the opportunity to get paid a lot more than "the reliable guy" relationship brokers try to cultivate.

I pick up and deliver without error, but I deal with dozens of brokers, and don't consider myself a reliable watering hole for any one broker. Where do I get these loads? Off Internet Truckstop mostly, after I've posted my truck to go "anywhere".

    Foxcover Thanks this.

Ok, but those short run VA loads include multiple p/u, multiple drops, etc. I also try to get $2-, but backhaul dry loads won't often pay that. If you p/u a load in Florida going to NY, you might get as much as $4 p/mi for a one pick, one drop load, but the dry backhaul from NY to Florida might be as low as $1-, which when averaged out makes this better than the $2- you demand for EVERY load.

I had heard stories of $12,000- loads, but the best I got was $8,400- last summer....Some of this is luck too.
