I have been doing some due diligence and getting quotes for different types of freight (Ie) flat, step, reefer and van checking some load boards just seeing what some brokers are offering and man some of these gus are greedy i made some calls today on reefer loads most that i was quoted was a 1.87 per mile. i even had one that had a load of ice cream for 1.38per mile that was 1375 miles for $1900.00. she said i have a little room on it my response was you need a whole lot of room for that one she just said oh well i know. whats a decent average for hauling reefer loads i know thats a loaded question but some of these guys are ridicouless with this....

Pulling reefer has upside, staying busy! other things to consider are, lumper fees, reefer fuel and wash outs. A reefer can handle up to 44K gross wt, its good for haz-mat, and dry goods. frozen for solo and fresh for teams. downside, late penalty at reciever and long unloading times. also more maintenance on the chiller. If you networked with a few regulars the market is fairly strong now. Ch Robinson is big but also cheap, and fresh brokers on the west coast are tough too. but you hould expect at least 1.60 to 1.90 loaded. If you want to try reefer but don,t want to buy a reefer you could lease on to Southern at .92cmp loaded and empty plus fuel surcharge and let the carrier do the admin side. They are building the lease side and have 800 plus company trucks. (they are tough to work for)2005 yr + truck must pass spec and dot. I am thinking of moving from company side to lease side and run for them. They do not lease trucks. bring your own rig they have huge fuel discounts at p/j.

In the game of Reefer. It's simple. If ya have the horse you MUST have the wagon. Pulling somone elses trailer is crazy. Having a trailer you own will definately help you.
flight379, stocktonhauler, runaway and 2 others Thank this. -
I don't pull my wagon out of the yard for less then $2.00 per mile for all miles. Even Cheap Charlie (Ch. Robinson) will pay that if, you stick to your guns. JUST SAY NO TO CHEAP FREIGHT!
Irishtrucker, KnuckleBuster, TheLittleGuy and 3 others Thank this. -
