whats the best way 2 load 53ft.reefer and being legal with 40ft.bridge law in cali.

    hows the best way to load a 53 ft. reefer trailer and be legal with the 40 ft. bridge law in california...now the way i been loading is i have my 5th wheel spred apart from the trailer,and i been loading single in the nose and double pallets all the way to the tail,everything sideways...9 times out of 10 im okay...but every dispatcher i have worked for been arguing with me to load single double single and double to the tail.and 7 times out of 10 im to heavy on the tandems...i have lost jobs over this argument with dispatchers and loaders...can anybody tell me how they load up there 53ft. reefers???and you all know they load every reefer to be at 79,000lb gross and then some...who knows exactly whats up and make it simple cuz we aint got time for calculaters on the road...:biggrin_25523:

    My initial response, if you're loading that heavy, would be to load the trailer as if it's a 48. That way you won't be too heavy on the trailer tandems.

    Exactly as rogue says. Stretch out up front as needed and don't go beyond the 48' mark. That'll put the end of the last pallet on top of the rear axle where it needs to be. Then you'll be right at 39'-40' kingpin to center of rear axle.

    Single in the nose and double the rest of the way and not past the 48 ft mark.

    It depends on the trailer. I would load 2 singles sideways then double straight in to the 48' mark. It was easier to get the weight off the nose than off the tail. Plus loading 2 singles sideways helped keep them from tipping over when the boxes got wet.

    That'll work too. That will give you a 38'-39' spread while the other about a 39'-40' spread.

    Depending on it's similar weighted pallets.

    The only bad part of that picture is the top pallets up front. Don't hit your brakes. :)
    Just imagine a single layer. If they are 2500lb pallets, I'll go a double single up front like that and then alternate to stretch, then double double......

    Yeah Condo that why i used that you can do some varies with that as you know... there are several ways depending on the weight and sizes...as for top pallets i have used a strap in those situations not a load bar but you bring up a very good point...

    My truck is pretty light and I can go single double single double double double... and not go over the 48' mark. My fifth wheel is second from closet hole to truck. How heavy are your tandems?

    If OP is loading single in the nose and the rest (turned sideways) all the way to the tail, he's loading about 30 pallets, right ? And surely, they don't weigh 2000 apiece. Just what is he loading and are all the same product, or what ? I've got a call into Sherlock Holmes, stand-by.......
