I just had 570 CHEP pallets put into a 53' van. You can take off two rows of 38 (stacks of 19) to make a 48' van.

So you should see 494 (570-76).

    Ever run the northeast?

I've noticed that good condition 48's are getting popular with guys who run CA all the sudden...Railroad lobbyists have clout.

    OP-

It depends on the pallets, and the overhang, but I can tell you from experience (we still have at least nine 48'ers) that anything heavy will almost always fit, but shippers dont always know that, and brokers almost NEVER know that. I look at the breakdown of the load and make my own determination.

For what my company hauls, 53's are a waste of space. 48 is perfect.
