I've got a customer who is asking if we can any carriers in our network who can scale 49k. I've heard that Hirschbach is able to do this on their reefer trailers by removing the reefer unit itself and sealing the trailer. The commodity can not be shipper on flatbed or stepdeck. Are their carriers out there who can scale that kind of weight on a dry van/is what I've heard about the reefer trailers true? Please let me know.

According to Prime, with those small sleeper trucks and those ECO49 trailers, they can scale up to 49,500.

I worked for Hirschbach 3 years and have not once seen them remove a reefer unit to move freight. With my truck I could haul 44,600 and a reefer unit weighs less than 2000 lbs. They have big sleepers and APU's.

Yep an ECO49 I've heard anywhere from 49,000 to 50,000 with the right set up.

While it may be possible on an Eco49 with potentially a small sleeper or day cab is your customer willing to pay a premium for that kind of service? Just throwing it out there and I know you are trying to please your customer I just cannot imagine anyone going out and spec'ing a set up that way and not charging a premium for it.

Primes lightweight (solo) fleet can haul 48-49k w/ a reefer. I had a lightweight cascadia and could run about 48.5k at around 79800 gross, I think the peterbilts are a little lighter and can move a little heavier loads.

There was one customer, in particular who wanted to be able to load 48k, supposedly there were pretty big contracts resulting from it. I don't want to name the customer, but I know they set up a yard in mi with full time prime employees working out of it, and a trailer shop down the road was added to the network for trailer washouts/repairs. They might run some lighter loads out of there but I think it's mainly 48k+.

It's very doable. I can haul a little over 47300 in my APU equipped Cascadia with full size sleeper as long as I dont have more than 1/2 tanks of fuel.

WOW! 49,000 with a reefer? I could only do 45,500 with a pete and a dry van. With my FL and a reefer trl I can do just over 44,000. I'm guessing those trucks have as few options as possible and an engine so small it's really giving all it can to make it up mount eagle.

They are mostly mid roof fl cascadias, I think 48" sleepers. They still have a twin bunk but no closets and some added storage above bunk to compensate. A lot of the weight reduction comes from the 'Eco 49' trailer.

I've seen a lot of the larger fleets running these same trucks. Prime buys them with DD13 engines and still turns down rpm/turbo. Some hills are pretty rough, especially running heavy, I've had to pull some in 5th in the past.
