I have a TK sb200 unit with 20k hours and it recently developed an oil leak. Looks like it's coming from between the crank pulley and the front cover area. There are even splatters on the back wall from when the reefer starts and throws the oil around. I've never taken it apart and would like at least an idea of what it could be and how difficult it is to change. I've done some work on it before, changed the water pump so I'm pretty good with tools.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Not knowing the unit but going by some of the car & LT motors I have worked on it sounds like a front crank seal.
The seal fits in the front cover and seals around the harmonic pulley assy. Some seals can be changed by just removing the pulley popping the seal out and the new one in. Others you also have to remove the cover as the seal gets installed from the back side.

One of the things to check is where the seal rides on the pulley as it could wear a grove and the new seal will not seal. For some cars you can get a seal kit that has a sleeve that fits over the wear grove and is glued in place.

Again this is going by some of the car & LT motors I have worked on.

Thanks for your reply Dave. Having worked on cars I was thinking the exact same thing. Hoping someone who has worked on Yanmar motors or maybe had experience with this issue could chime in also. I like being prepared before tearing into something.

Hello, I have worked on one or two Yanmar engines these front seals are known to leak right around that hour mark. Just a bit of advise would be to get a pulley boss, because you will have to deep of a grove in the boss from the seal to trust it not to leak again when you replace the seal. Do not do a speedy sleeve, they are useless. Also make #### certain that you line up the pin to the crank, or you will have a bad time!

Is it hard to replace it in general? How much do I need to take apart? Drain oil?

Thanks for the info. So what all would I need to pick up at TK when I go there since it's an hour away so that I'm prepared and can knock this out.
