I'm beginning my search of reefers. I got a new opportunity but I have to have my own trailer. Leasing is out of the question.. too expensive. For my price range there are a few options.... I'm really more concerned about the motor Carrier or Thermo King. Any opinion on which is more reliable?

Lot of variables...you talking new or used? What kind of work you going to do&as for shops...the carrier dealer network is smaller....but most if not all TK shops will work on a Carrier

Ford vs Chevy. Pros and cons to both. Both do the job.

Running potatoes from Idaho to Fl. Looking at 07 - 08. No more than $20k. Will run broker loads back to Idaho.

Personally I would talk to both of your local dealers and see which one you would rather work with should you need parts or service. Our local Thermo King dealer has been so helpful that the next reefer setup we buy will be another Thermo King if I have anything to say about it.

Buy whichever one has the lowest hours on the unit and best maintenance history..

I hope you know some really good brokers because Florida outbound loads are hit and miss with the rates, mostly miss..

I noticed the brand new Carriers are just like the Thermokings. Carrier has an easier to use display/functions, and the thermoking is much quieter especially when it starts up but you have to go through multiple menus to get to what you want. Not a big deal, but kinda silly why you have to push so many buttons to do basic things. However the new Carriers are just like the thermokings now. Me personally I would use a TK if I had the choice.
