It seems like nobody can make any kind of decision unless it was in the Bible. I can just as easily say "It's on tv so it must be true." That doesn't make it so. There is nothing in the Bible that makes any kind of logical scientific sense even IF parts of it were based on observations made by people.
Now here's the $64,000 question. Is it really so hard to think for yourself? |
you know the world is in trouble when people have to rely on an ancient text rather than their own moral compass to make decisions. of course, these are the same people that hate gays because the bible told them to or feel it necessary to remind everyone of their one-way ticket to an eternity in hell.
I suppose this thread is a bit played out. some of us asked questions, some answered, others got mad, and there was even one or two that came in with a complete disregard for logic, reason, and common sense, due to the fact that their god apparently defies all of these(yet they claim to understand said god, go figure).
an apparent disregard for science
only when it suits you is quite hypocritical and counter-productive for the rest of us(ie trying to put creationism in schools or take evolution out). I never hear people claim germ theory is 'just a theory.' no, instead you wash your hands because you really believe there are germs there. these are in fact the same scientists that bring you evolution. there is no conspiracy to prove your bible wrong, it does that just fine all on it's own. nobody denies gravity while jumping off a cliff, so why pick the one you don't like and cry about it? at least people like the Neumann couple practice what they preach, refusing to take their sick daughter to the hospital and praying instead. that worked out oh so well for everybody.
of course, you can't ever blame religion for people like that, or for priests that rape children, or any other religious fanatic. oh, no, because "they aren't true christians." what you end up with from this argument is an endless number of self-proclaimed christians that are apparently the only one of their kind. one would think the supposed word of god would be coherent enough for all to understand, devoid of the analogies and symbolism everybody argues over. then again, this is the word of the same god that avoids logic, reason, and common sense at all costs. I'm surprised he didn't leave you a crossword puzzle and some cryptograms instead.
back to science, how many of you denounce the science that doesn't fit your interpretation of the bible? if scientists announced tomorrow some finding that proved any of the ridiculous stories(the great flood, for example), you would be all over that like white on rice with your I told you so's. am I wrong? selective observation is a useless characteristic of yours. take baack's signature for example(don't mean to single you out. yours is a common saying, but is easily referenced here). you never see a photo of cancer cells or parasites or people dead from disease/hunger/war or disfigured babies or natural disasters. no, we only notice the good things and attribute them all to our wonderful loving god. all that nasty stuff? well, he works in mysterious ways/it's all part of his perfect plan/he didn't do that. really? I mean if it helps you cope with the uglier side of the real world, whatever, but if your god created all and knows all, this was his intention from the start. that obviously doesn't fit with your image of a loving god, so I can't imagine you would embrace
all sides of his creation.
the only people throwing tantrums because of their idea of a perfect world are you guys. instead of blaming natural disasters on
nature(novel idea there), you blame man's ways. instead of blaming crime on any number of factors, you blame lack of god in public view. you even blame disease on sin. I mean, really, does it make you feel better to point fingers rather than try to solve the actual problem?
