Well, I guess I'll be the one to ask.

Did you have a load on when you quit?

Did you notify them you were quitting?

Did you ask them what terminal they wanted the truck returned to?

Did you return the truck to that terminal? Or did you just "leave" the truck somewhere?

Did you get it in writing from the terminal manager and signed by him/her that the truck was returned in good repair? (assuming you took it back)

If you didn't 1. notify them, 2. return their truck to them delivered of it's load, clean and in good repair, and 3. get it in writing

    well, you're probably screwed.

    Sorry.

Worked for Melton two months and had to quit. Not enough miles and too much sitting, often four days at the time when the wheels should have been turning. The straw that broke the camels back was when I got a scale fine taken from my paycheck when I had no control over the trailer's weight. You should not steal from your driver's - they are the ones that keep you on the road and in the business.:biggrin_25510:

That's to bad, sorry to hear you had to leave..
They keep calling me to come in but I defiantly will stay clear if you have been sitting 4 days....

Good Luck in finding a good job... I am having a really rough time myself in this area...

Well, if they came to your house and got the truck, then they can charge you for truck recovery. If you couldn't get with the dispatcher or whoever it was, you should have talked with another manager. It was your responsibility to take the truck back to the terminal. I'm not standing up for Melton, don't know anything about them, hubby or I neither one have ever worked for them. Just pointing out a fact of life and trucking. Unless you specifally have it in writing to leave your truck somewhere other than a company terminal, with any company, they'll get a recovery fee from you. And you should have it in writing about which terminal they tell you to leave your truck at too.

Melton Is Far The Worst Company To Be Associated With. The Dispatchers Were So Rude To My Husband When He Had A Family Member PASS AWAY, About Getting Him Home, Which He Was Already Out For Approx 18 Days.
Save Your Time And Energy, If You Wan't To Get Paid Good...don't Go With Melton, They Will Also Rip You Off, Oushing The Owner Op Lease Program On Him Too!

What? I have hauled thousands of loads and never thought it was the companies or someone else's responsibility to weigh my load.

I have complete control of every load I haul and have the responsibility to make sure it is under axle and gross weight and set at the bridge law for any state I go through. Remember that and you will never pay a overweight fine again.
