Melton does not preplan drivers and the driver will sit. They run minimal miles - just enough for the lease operator to make their payment or in many cases actually keep the driver in debt and in the negative to them. Of all the drivers I have spoken with, not one has had anything good to say about the company. At first, I thought it was just my dispatcher not giving me miles and making me sit, keeping me stressed out, but after speaking with other Melton drivers, I found that they all are being run the same way. Within my orientation, all the drivers, but myself, quit within the first 30 days. Dispatchers refuse to get drivers home, even with six weeks notice of home time. With several years experience driving over the road, I know what it's like to get miles, get paid and get home. I had great experiences driving over the road and I love trucking. I have made excellent money in the past. I believe Melton Truck Lines is manipulating their lease and are manipulating their fuel rebates and miscellaneous charges, and who knows what else and pay their drivers the absolute minimum. Their ads are misleading, drawing drivers into a company that does not deliver as they advertise. Drivers - Beware!

My best friend drives for Melton and he's getting ready to leave the company. They plan him with crappy runs that he doesn't have the hours for. He's currently stranded in Atlanta, GA for the Labor Day weekend. The company knew he was going to arrive at his delivery about 1 hr after closing time on Friday. The company is closed until Tuesday due to the holiday. He's not alone in this either. One of his friends also drives for Melton and he's in Seattle until Tuesday morning. I can't believe that this company would have their drivers sitting for such long periods of time. Talk about poor planning!!!!

That blows. Away from home for the holiday weekend? I wouldn't want to work for them either. Is he lease or company?

Yeah that does suck - I used to drive team for another company that figures prominently on this thread, and last year I got stuck in Atlanta GA for the 4th of July, even though we had a hometime request in. Thankfully, they got me going home right away - NOT!.

I agree 100% now that I have operated a lease I will never lease again for the rest of my life and I will not allow any of my family or friends to make the same mistake I have. Meltons lease is like getting half the pay of a company driver and then having to put that back into your truck. I never would have dreamed that they could advertise something to sound so good, then when you get into it you are screwed so bad...... and if I leave I will owe them large bucks. Melton has made my life and that of many of their drivers miserable. Just ask a lease operator.Melton always sits for long periods between loads. their detention pay never really gets paid it's all bull.Melton prevents their drivers from running any more miles than what they want you to drive. And that boils down to no paycheck for their lease operators.Pray for instant karma on them.Shame on Melton.

On a side note, there is a guy at Melton who flies all over picking up abandoned trucks, and brings them back to the barn in Tulsa. His name is Paul. At first, my wife and I thought he was a very nice, harmless man, who just seem to like us. WRONG!! He liked my wife, and even went so far as to, for lack of better terms, stole a kiss from her while she was watching a movie in the break one, all the while propositioning her to leave me, and be with him. She came to the truck crying, and would not tell me why until the next day, after Paul had caught a flight out. On Monday, I went in and informed HR and Safety of the incident. They laughed it off, saying, "Oh, that crazy Paul, he's just like that you know. It was just a joke". And oh was it a funny one. But wait until you hear the punch line before you laugh. It was all caught on the security camera, and my lawyer got me $5000 from "crazy Paul's" employer, Melton Truck Lines.

Moral of the story: The best laugh, is the last laugh. :smt065

Now that is completely out of line. You're a lot nicer man than I. Him and I would have settled that score out in the parking lot.

Upset my wife?!?! Oh, no you don't !!! There will be hell to pay for that.

i recently left melton. i was with them for about six months. the first month, i got fair miles, and it was all down hill from there. when you make a delivery, instead of reloading you right away, they will kill your 14 hour clock waiting on a load, and leave you barely enough time to get there. when it comes to holidays, well your new home is the petro. i would not recommend anyone going to work there if you are looking to make any money. they have a new fleet of KW, Pete's, and Freightliners, new trailers too. maybe they cant pay their drivers because they have all of that new equipment to pay for.

*note - I am on my hubby's account posting to this. I will bring his attention to this post so that he is able to give a more detailed description.

I was wondering if this was pertaining to mainly lease operators with melton?

My husband recently started with them as a company driver, in April, and has not complained about this company at all. For us that is a big deal. With other companies he has worked with, including being a lease operator for JB Hunt; he has complained every time we would talk. He has not had to sit for more than a weekend anywhere, been getting good miles, and very good paychecks. This is why I was wondering if the orginial posting was referring to lease operators.
