I don't see the money in this. I must be missing something. I want to throw some numbers out here and see if someone can shed some light on this for me.
Lets say you get a load of three tractors from Laredo to New York. That's roughly 2054 miles.
2054 miles at lets say 5miles per gallon would be 411 gallons needed to deliver the trucks.
411 gallons at $4 per gallon is $1,644.
2054 miles at $1.05 per mile is $2,156.70
After fuel that's only $512.70
And if I understand this correctly, that $512 is going to get chopped up faster than an onion at a restaurant getting to your next load.
Where on Gods green earth is the money?Dinomite, average joe and Western flyer Thank this. -

That's why I told truck movers in an email, thanks but no thanks....

Also, you fail to mention that most of the cost of travel is paid for or reimbursed by them if you are moving new trucks.
I've been with them for awhile and am very happy for the most part.
As with any company, there are going to some things you have to accept and some things that make you walk away. The choice is yours.I am medicineman, Loke and DirkSteel Thank this. -

An interesting and 'insightful'(!) thread! ROTFL!!!

Well you need to add in the fuel surcharge. Assuming generalities here, your only paying $1.10 for fuel. So, your getting back $2.90, right?. So 411 gallons times $2.90 is $1192. 1192 + 512 is $1704. Figuratively. Now take out 3 nights in motel at 55$ and $100 for meals a $40 taxi ride and you have roughly $1400 for 3 days of work.

Now well take that same scenario but now we are gonna move 4 trucks and then undeck them, which pays $1.40 a mile. 2054 miles x 1.40 is $2875 - fuel at $1.10 a gallon(remember fuel surcharge reimbursement) x 411 is $452. Take out $300 for travel expenses and now your at $2100 for 3 days of work. That there my friend is the TM incentive, not doing stinking hub loads. But consider this, your not going to get many loads over 1000 miles. You will spend a lot of time in the airports due to ample amounts of 600 to 800 mile trips. That's up to 3 days of your week away from home in an airport. Perks of this job: New truck to drive every time. - paper logs. Save money by sleeping in the truck(against company policy) and the tigers will turn you in, even though they smoke in the trucks because they don't receive claims like you will. And you will receive claims. Which is the biggest down fall of this job, claims. That's why I don't work there anymore. After 1.5 years I still get notified of pending claims on trucks I delivered in 2013. I just laugh.
Whoisdoug Thanks this.
