NO this is NOT the ELogs you've heard of.

ELogs is a program that uses either the Quallcomm or People net system and from the time you get in the truck and every time you change a duty status you have to push a button so it "draws" a line for you in the company system. You will need to get your copies from them for when you file your taxes for your PerDiem at the end of the year. You will need these copies for in case of an IRS audit. BUT you can have them on a CD which saves an awful lot of space over 365 pages of logbook! The IRS is ok with this. Just remember that CD's printed off a computer do lose their information after a few years. Pressed CD's that you buy with music or movies last a lot longer.

I wouldn't see why you couldn't use the computer program logs if the company wants you to email or fax copies in. It's a log but don't forget you do need to put a signature on them. DDL lets you put a scanned bitmap signature on theirs but this Eclipse you mention IDK. But the log has to be signed.

BUT, the best way to find out is ask the company this question. We can tell you all kinds of stuff but they are the ones making the decision.

I'm going to download the free trial and give it a run. I'll let you know how it works or what my views of it are.

I've used DDL since it was free back in the 8/10 years and it has saved my arse many times! It has been worth every penny I paid for it when we went to 10/14 and I recommend that everyone have a log program as if it saves you just one log book violation it's paid for it's self. Not to mention it's great for preplanning your trip instead of wasting a page doing it by hand using the calculator and racking your brain. Just point and click and it's done.

I know a lot of drivers will use DDL and print out their daily log for their files but that's a lot of paper and ink to be spending money on. I just use it to back myself up and then just copy to the company paid for loose leaf book! An ink pen lasts a long time and is a ton cheaper than printer ink and paper! Oh and the hole punch if you keep the pages in a note book!

Off topic for this post but this is in reply to the ELOGS post:
This new logging program called Eclipse.
I downloaded the trial version and played with it for a few days and it's easier than DDL, but they charge you for updates? That I don't understand. And yes, I know with all the lobbyists like CRASH, TADD, MADD,not to mention the Teamsters and ATA and the others always climbing on the DOT's arse to change hours because of this or that to fill their agendas I can almost agree with them but it really doesn't cost that much to change a few lines of code. Just buy the program and the updates should be free on included in the purchase price. I can not tell you about DDL and charging for an update as they never did and as I haven't reinstalled it since my last crash on the laptop because as I'm not driving anything but a desk right now no need in having it installed but I should to see if they started to charge for updates.
BUT: Eclipse is a clean and simple program and you can preplan your trip with it like you can with DDL. I would recommend either as a backup to your paper log.

I remember when DDL came out and it took a little while for thew DOT officers to get to know it but they did realize that those programs helped them out and helped drivers become more productive and "safer" with their logging. I know as after the 10/14 rule started I never got a single logbook violation from the company except for one mistake that when we went over it, it was their checking software that was wrong and was fixed.
I do highly reccomend that everyone have a logbook program to CYA!

I now information that the truck repair shop associated with minstar & T21 called northstar diesel service, is not registered with the state of minnesota secretary of state's office there for not being a registered business has no tax I'd # but is charging & collecting sales tax!! These are both violations of minnesota state law. I hope Mitch enjoys his holiday gift of silver bracelets!!! I have been in touch by email with both agencies, secretary of state & dept of revenue!!!

#####, I am so glad that I left them in July. Seems like lots of changes since I left. Shame that Peggy left, she tried to be real decent. Katy was my mgr, and you had to watch out for her. She would stick a knife in your back real fast. Her husband is a driver for Rodeway, and they have a truck, and they would not lease it on with Minstar. The one that I hated the most there was Kristen. SHe actually told me before I turned my truck in was, if I did not like running back and forth to the east coast, then find another job, because this was what I was going to do. She even overruled Peggy and Gary, who where the dispatchers for the MN area, not her.
