Yep. I can't say for sure that is JB's game, but I worked at a company where that was pretty much the game plan. Benifits are expensive.

My "law of turnover-tivity"

Companies like J.B. Hunt want turnover, and lots of it. This is why guys like this Me character are needed at his particular company.

These guys really do view you as monkeys, btw. That's how they rationalize their lying. That's how they manage to sleep at night.

Anyway, I think the government is giving some sort of relief to these companies when they have tens, maybe even HUNDREDS, of cleaned-out trucks sitting around. Companies love to moan about how little profit they make per truck per day, sure. But this also means that lots of trucks sitting around parked seriously erode those profits. It doesn't take many trucks to bring profits to ZERO. So, why the hell are those trucks allowed to sit? Why do companies mistreat their hired help knowing this?

Maybe the profits are so low per truck it's in the companies' interest to make sure the trucks are sitting and not running. If the government IS giving these outfits tax relief for their idle rigs, the companies may be making more on their sitting trucks than those trucks would be making running on the road.

The only "problem" is what to do with the drivers of the cleaned-outs, which explains why the rigs became cleaned outs in the first place. Abuse the drivers and they'll quit, meaning they don't have to be given benefits. When more drivers are needed (some drivers quit because they're moving up in the world, not because they're being mistreated on purpose), the recruiters, such as this Me dude, can then go to work.

The companies can keep this machine running by parroting in unison how they are but mere VICTIMS "hurting for drivers". This is just a ruse, a hoop the companies have to jump through to make sure they keep getting the government relief they get.

The great mystery that is the turnover problem, a mystery whose solution is being kept from drivers, is like an enormous fog lifting.

This doesn't quite explain it

Sure, "convincing" drivers to quit through bad treatment means you avoid paying their benefits, but this still doesn't account for the fact that cleaned-out trucks sitting around eat profits.

I think the companies are getting some sort of relief from the government and they're abusing that relief. Profits per truck are so low a company actually makes more (to a certain extent) by keeping some of their trucks on the lot. The relief they get (probably tax relief) is greater than the profits they'll make from running the trucks.

And if they purposely abuse the drivers of those rigs, those drivers will quit. This means the trucks get to be moved to the cleaned-out line, the company insiders can *************** and moan about how their being reamed by turnover, meaning the relief gravy train still comes in, and the ex-drivers can be kicked to curb and forgotten about.

Well also you might have to figure in the HIGH fuel cost that they have to incure while hauling all this CHEAP freight also. They are saving a TON of money by having some of their trucks sit and not running wasting their penny a mile profit they swear they are getting.

Re: Bad-Boy JB Hunt Fires and Blacklists

Did anyone see where JB Hunt recently made record profits for the first half of 2006? Is JB Hunt stealing from drivers to pay their stockholders a few more pennys per share? I say yes, how about you?

Re: Bad-Boy JB Hunt Sends Fraudulent Document to OSHA

JB Hunt declared record profits for the first half of 2006. This fact makes me wonder what other documents JB Hunt and their "evil minions" have fraudulently prepared for their investors and the SEC. Inquiring minds want to know more...

Re: How I KNOW you suck, J.B. Hunt

You know no matter if the company is making a profit or not the executives and the CEO are gitting themselves a nice little pay and benifits package. And when you are buying as many trucks, fuel. and parts as they are, I'm sure the suppliers offer some personal freebies. Not to mention hob nobbing with the Walton family is sure to have a few benifits. Rich people have their own way of working under the table too.

Well, if someone is dumb enough to talk to a JB Hunt recruiter here of all places, knowing what is posted here, and still go to work for them, then they deserve whatever screwing they get.
