Re: How I KNOW you suck, J.B. Hunt

I want to preface my remarks by stating that anyone who has read any of my posts knows that I am no fan of JB Hunt. That being said, Duckie is right. JB does not hire newbies. But, the come close. All it takes to drive OTR at JB is 90 days OTR experience. JB even counts the days spent with a trainer towards the 90 days.

Some one stated that HB hires rookies and pays them low wages. This is not 100% true. The pay for new drivers is based on the state a driver lives in. A 90 day driver will receive starting pay of 40 cents per mile if he lives in IN, KY, MI, OH, PA, NJ, or WI. If a new driver lives in CA, NM, AZ, TX, LA, AL of FL, he will start at 34 cents per mile. There is a reason, but it is not politically correct to say.

OOPs....OH NO...IM STILL HERE!!!! RUN AND HIDE!
No offence brake pad....you obviously worked here and failed as a recruiter. But a lot of what you are posting is wrong. You said recruiters are encouraged to lie....sorry....people are fired here weekly for lying. Fastest way to get fired. You said Big dawg was the top recruiter....when big dawg was here he was NEVER the top recruiter.
Your pay for a drivers wasnt even close....it must have been a long time since you failed....errr I mean work here. A 3 month driver in those states you said pay 40 cpm, now start at 42 cpm....even the pay in the western states went up....right now the lowest pay for a newbie in a few states is 37 cpm. As far as hiring newbies....yes 90 days to go by themselves, however someone with 6 weeks can go with a trainer.

Glad I can clear that up for you....Now brake pad, you can go back to your rant ......NOW MODERATORS.....BAN AWAY <insert evil laugh here>

Re: Bad-Boy JB Hunt Sends Fraudulent Document to OSHA

Burrows, I sympathize with your predicament, and wish you all the luck you're going to need with your lawsuit -- and go ahead and gripe if you want to -- you've earned it. (my 2 cents)

My roommate drove for JB for a few months early this year. He didn't have too many problems with them -- just the usual sitting too long between dispatches, disorganized dispatching and planning -- same stuff you get at most companies. However, one day when he was in the office, they told him that he had received a complaint from another motorist. Apparently, some 4 wheeler complained that he wouldn't let them merge onto the freeway and they actually had to hit the brakes at the bottom of the on ramp. Imagine, a problem merging onto a freeway ... in Chicago ... during rush hour ... in the winter Can you imagine? Anyway, they told him that it was being put in his file as a 'preventable incident'. He was pretty upset because he is an extremely cautious and courteous driver. He was told that it was no big deal. Nobody ever sees those reports and they don't really do anything with them except put them in the drivers' file. He talked to other drivers who had been there a while, and they laughed and said it was not big deal - they had 'books' in their file and nothing ever happened because of it. When he told me about this, I said it sounded like JB used those as their ultimate 'CYA' weapon. I told him that as long as he didn't make anyone mad, he could have a hundred complaints and they would just sit in his file. But if he got on someone's bad side, they would become the 'excuse' to fire him and the documentation to back up their actions in court if there were a lawsuit for wrongful dismissal or discrimination -- or anything. They could pull the reports out and say "He was a bad driver. Look at all these 'preventable incident' reports he accumulated. We didn't fire him because of (fill in your reason here), we fired him because he is an unsafe driver and Safety is #1 at JB Hunt". That was one of the reasons he left JB. He didn't want to work at a company that would allow anyone to call in any kind of BS incident and automatically assume that they were telling the truth. It could be a driver from another company, an ex-gf with an axe to grind or anyone -- there is no investigation of the incident and no discussion about it. It is documented, determined to be avoidable or unavoidable soley on the small bit of information received from the caller and put in the driver's file. Your story confirmed exactly what I suspected, JB routinely amasses CYA documentation 'just in case' they need to fire someone. What a negative way to do business. No wonder so many drivers are bitter about them -- that just illustrates the bad attitude and lack of respect they have for their drivers -- making plans to fire them from day 1!

He's at a much smaller company now, making better money, getting better miles and driving a much nicer truck. Good thing he got out before JB could work their magic on his DAC!

A bit ironic don't you think? You're not allowed to drive very far to your job that involves driving hundreds of miles.

Reply to keelady:

Thank you very much for your kind thoughts and words. I have not filed a lawsuit against JB Hunt at this time, however, who knows what the future may bring...wink, wink, nod, nod... I am currently fighting JB Hunt within the administrative US Department of Labor, Surface Transportation Assistance Act discrimination complaint remedy system (kind of like a bureaucratic "Circle of Hell" where JB Hunt is the pivot point, LOL!). It is slow going but bound to reap valuable returns of closely-held and usually unobtainable internal JB Hunt company documents and sworn-oath insider testimony. Information is power. Power to the drivers!

I have always had the feeling that JB Hunt treats some drivers very differently then others regarding their public motorist complaints "policy". Your story confirms to me what I always suspected: JB Hunt uses their public motorist complaint "policy" to eliminate (via termination) those drivers that complain about sitting endlessly, low weekly miles, unpaid promised earnings, illegal equipment and/or dispatcher directives to drive a commercial motor vehicle illegally. You are sooo on-target with your comments here!

During my employment at JB Hunt, I found JB Hunt's "Safety is Our #1 Goal" company montra to be nonsense corporate "speel", very self-serving and rarely true. I found that JB Hunt talks a great game but delivers very little. In fact, working for JB Hunt may actually damage a driver's career beyond repair if JB Hunt plays the "DAC-card" on the unsuspecting former JB Hunt driver. I say, stay FAR, FAR away from JB Hunt! It is not worth ruining your driving career and life for a few pennies more the JB Hunt way.

Re: How I KNOW you suck, J.B. Hunt

ME_at_JB is obviously a JB Hunt recruiter because he uses the word "here" when refering to JB recruiting. His response to my post on JB starting pay goes a long way in proving that some JB recruiters are liars. I stated that new drivers with 90 days of experience start out at 40 cents in the highest paying states and 34 cents in the lowest paying states. ME_at_JB claims the correct starting pay is 42 cents for new drivers in the highest paying states and 37 Cents in the lowest paying states. All one need do is go to *****to see that my figures are correct. ME_at_JB lists the top starting pay which requires 3 plus years of experience. Since we are talking about new drivers, his figures are incorrect or worse. Me_at_JB says that JB will hire a driver with 6 weeks experience and send him out with a trainer. In this case the driver makes $55 a day.

When ME_at_JB says "recruiters are fired weekly for lying", he at least admits that a lot of lying is going on at JB recruiting.

ME_at_JB says BigDawg was never the top recruiter at JB. It is true that another recruiter hired more drivers for the year than BigDawg, but only because BigDawg missed so much time tending to his sick wife. On a daily basis, BigDawg was the best.

Actually ME_at_JB opens up a can of worms when he says some one else was the top recruiter. The recruiter he refers to was terminated for lying to drivers. It was not recruiting who said he had to go. Recruiting liked this guy so much that they gave him a $15,000 bonus just weeks before he was terminated. Senior management said he had to go. This was a result of many complaints from terminal managers that drivers were walking out of orientation when when they found out that everything that "Super Recruiter" had told them was a lie.
