I am an O/O and I have to agree with Turbo on this one. When I read
the figures I felt a little skeptical myself. Bluewolf,I don't think Turbo was
pissing on you. I have owned a couple of trucks and it is very unlikely to spend only 4250.00 a month. Don't get me wrong,Im not denying your claim or saying you are lying, but can you just be a little more specific as to how that is so? Are you including fuel surcharge with the 13250 gross?
My guess is you are getting 90cpm base pay and 20cpm fuel surcharge
which brings it 1.10 a mile and you average about 12,000 miles a month.
At 12,000 miles if you averaging 5.5mpg for every mile your fuel cost alone would be around 5400 with today's fuel prices, unless you are averaging more miles to the gallon. Im just wondering is this the case?

First off, let me pass on my condolences for the loss of you wife's mother.

You're free to consider my responses as you wish, and I apologize for any misunderstanding that you have because I look at your claims in a dubious manner.

All things aside, the fact remains, that you made an extraordinary claim of profit, and I called you on it, because the figures you quoted do not make any sense.

When I post something, especially of the nature that surrounds this issue, I have as much information in hand to support every word I type BEFORE I post it. I do my research and am ready to stand my ground if challenged. Am I perfect? No. I've made errors many times over the years, and I retract them the second I discover them, or once someone points them out to me.

I've offered complete respect towards you on this issue, and will continue to do so. My sole purpose and goal is to disseminate facts and advice that will help others make informed decisions, and to assist others to understand aspects of this industry that are both positive and negative.

I completely understand that at times, my views will not be shared by others, and that I can rub people the wrong way. I'ts never my intention to do so, but it does happen from time to time, because I happen to think that people deserve to have a COMPLETE understanding of any issue, and the facts deserve to be out there, or else...why even discuss it to begin with? If all people want to read is propoganda, then by all means, they can certainly pick up the trucking publication of their choice, and read the advertisements. There, everything is peachy and prosperous.

Out here in the real world, it can be quite different.

It just occured to me (when I read your comments) that I did not include fuel surcharges in all those figures above. That would up the net a couple of grand at best per month, and this was not an intentional omission. I simply failed to think of it at the time.

Even when that is added in, it raises the net settlement to around $750 a week, before taxes, and about $562.50 after tax considerations are made, and some people might consider that a decent net, but a good company position will pay much more, as many people know. If you have a family and take out those deductions, what is left? You're back into the low $400's at best in spendable income.

And here's an aspect of this that people need to grasp. While you are out there working your butt off to settle for this amount of money, keep in mind that freight rates with fuel surcharges are well above the $2.00 mark per mile in many cases. You're paying for the truck. You're maintaining it. You're paying for all of your own benefits, if you take them. You're augmenting all their incidental costs of the operating of that truck, and they are taking what could amount to, as much as a CLEAR 65% cut of the revenue generated by that truck. A large part of their overhead expenses have been eliminated, and they make out like bandits.

Turbo, do you know the saying about having a battle of wits with an unarmed man?

Likewise, you simply cannot reason with unreasonable people.

Frankly, I don't think bleuwulf is telling the whole story.

I really appreciate the support, because I do truly hate to make someone mad over a challenge, when something doesn't seem right.

And I'll simply put it like this:

If I thought there was a chance in you know what, that I could go to Lowell, Arkansas, lease one of those trucks, and make that kind of profit, I'd be on the phone to them this morning begging to hire on. I don't think that I'd be alone either.

$108,000 net before taxes? In 2006?

EVERYONE would be wanting to work for JB Hunt...

If you "All" will read my previous posts, and I believe "Turbo" read the first and responded apropriately that I am an owner opertor with JBHunt, yet have a sub-contract to "Train" company drivers. I do recal stating this clearly that the money is in "Training" for owner ops. You get all miles dispatched on the truck and a "Turnover" bonus if the driver lasts through his/her 90 day probation period.

Now, as to the oportunities with JBHunt, I also clearly stated that anyone can and should investigate the comapany they apply to regardless of the companies track record. Turbo, for you to base your decision on "Outdated Information" is your decision. If you really want to find out the truth for yourself..."At No Expense to you" get your arse off the couch and go to Lowell. There are 63 drivers in this weeks O/O class. There are 115 brand new 2005 Freightliner Century Class/ST's here on the lot specked for O/O. Drivers who have been on O/O with other companies are breaking leases to come onto the JBHunt lease program for 2 reasons. #1 you have a new company you're dealing with where O/O's get priority treatment on everything. #2 you have a total "Buy Out" option with no "Pre-Pay Penalties" on the truck.

Couple that with probably the 3rd "Largest" contracted load base in the industry and only "You" yourself set the limits on income. I see a lot of "Double Entry" accounting in your figures that you are miscalculating such as "Escrow". There is now "Escrow" on the lease purchase and no "Balloon" Payment. I have my lease in hand and have gone over it 3 times prior to responding to you. It's not a clause in the contract "Anywhere". At the end of the contracted term of your lease, the truck is your's free and clear.

But once again...You are the best to make "Your Own" judgements and I have yet to knock you down on that and never will. I was skeptical coming into JBHunt in 2005. A lot has changed in our favor. My only advice to you is when "Oportunity Knocks" at least "OPEN THE DOOR" rather than "LISTENING" to the garbled noise outside of the "Unknown". I'm not a lawyer but can say this on experience. If I listened to all the "Hearsay" dished out in my 40 year life span, I'd be one hell of a mixed up individual. I'm not one to rely "Solely" on ones opinion. I'm one to see for myself, test the water, dive in and if it's a shallow pool, chalk it off as a "Lesson" to help me survive the deep end dive next time.

    Have a wonderful day
