First let me say that I'm not here to bad mouth anyone.I would just like to get some facts out there for people to see who may not be aware of what swift transportation is doing to people. My husband went to work for swift after he completed truck driving school thank god he didn't attend swifts school! Well after orientation he got on a truck with a trainer who seemed to be very nice at first and after about a week he took his home time for 3 days which was fine he even paid for my husbands hotel room. When he returned to the truck he seemed like a completely different person he was very rude he wouldn't let my husband drive but like a couple of hours at a time and then proceeded to tell him he could not call me even when he was not driving. After another week of this he says that my husbands "head is not in this" so he should take a few days at home and maybe he would feel better. After he drops my husband off at a truckstop and reassures him that he will be back so its ok to leave some of his stuff on the truck he decides after two days he isn't going to answer the phone so when my husband calls swift to find out what going on they tell him that his trainer took him off the truck. So needless to say my husband lost some of his stuff because when they ran into each other at a terminal he says that my husband didn't leave anything on his truck. Not long after this he gets on a truck with another trainer and thank god he wasn't a complete crazy!. He did have his moments but all in all he had a great experience with him and there were no camplaints about the pay during training either pretty decent and it was always on time. Now is where the real nightmare begings..... He comes off the truck with his trainer a the day before Thanksgiving which was a Wednesday and was supposed to leave out the following Monday. Monday rolls around and when he gets there to test out everything goes good he passes and they tell him he is ready for the road BUT, they have no trucks available at the moment and they don't want to send anyone to another terminal to get a truck. So they send him home and tell him to keep calling evryday to find out if they got any trucks in. He does this for three(3) weeks(so obviously no paycheck). Finally after he tells them he is going with another comapany they find him a truck so he gets the truck everything is fine. His first week he only got 1100 miles and we were like ok he is new they just making sure he is gonna be able to handle it and evrything. Well first paycheck comes and it is 0 dollars so we were like ok let's not give up it can only get better (yeah right we were so wrong!) So every week after this he is stilll getting crappy miles and another thing starts happening it is saying on his check stubs that he has taken many personal advances...correct me if I'm wrong but it was my understanding that you could only take up to 105 a week. And you had to be in your truck dispatched under a load and put in for it on the qualcomm. His truck did not have an easy pass in it when he received it so he was having to take advances to pay for tolls but we were told it would be reimbursed so we chalked the advances up to not having the easy pass. So after he got the easy pass we were thinking that everything would be better bc he wouldn't have to pay for tolls and things like that. The next week he had 316 dollars in advances taken out and when we called payroll they couldn't tell us what it was for but they said that is was valid and would not be reimbursed. We just kept telling ourselves that it would get better just stick it out another week, well after numerous 0 dollar paychecks and a few 60 dollar paycheck we finally had enough. So on the 8th of january he came home for our sons birthday and he and he was gonna be home for 2 days well all the roads coming into and out of atlanta froze so he got to stay with us a little longer while he was he not even in his truck he had advances come out of his check is that even possible?!.......well after all this he is no longer employed with swift and hopefully he is on to better things. Iwould really like to know if this has happened to anyone who worked for swift? Oh and forget about tuition reimbursement they were taking it out of his paychecks and then we got a letter from the loan company saying we were 500 dollars behind!!.......swift is a big joke so save yourself some time and money and find another company.

You failed to mention if your hubby kept his receipts and scanned them or mailed them. Maybe someone from swift can explain how the reimbusement is done. Are p.o.and trip number required? Are tolls paid ? During Training was his income an advance or draw against his future earnings. Something surely does not add up here. Please tell me you have copies of all his expenses so you can file a tax deduction on your 1040A longform.

It's sounds to me like another " I missed that class on expenses and deduction" excuses. But like the traffic court judge reminds us, ignorance is not an excuse for breaking the law.

    Good Luck!

Interesting to watch as we get from here:

    to here:

When I see a conclusion that contradicts an introduction, it always makes me want to pick a paragraph apart. Blame it on my English teacher.

I've had some experiences with Swift, and someone I know just went to work there, so I may have something to add as well.

What is wrong with Swift's school?

If I were going to be a Negative Nancy, I would speculate that your husband wasn't learning anything after a week and the trainer didn't trust him to drive, but, let's don't go there. Instead, let's just say that your husband got a a bad trainer. There are very few good ones out there. Ther person that I know waited three weeks after orientation to get onto a truck with a trainer, ended up stalled in a hotel for a week, and learned exactly what not to do in a truck. So what could Swift do to weed out the bad trainers, since there is already a trainer shortage?

Lost luggage commented excluded. I worked for the airlines...the last thing I want to talk about is lost luggage.

One bad trainer, one good one. This still hasn't said much that reflects on Swift, as a company.

This, I can definitely believe. They seem to have a shortage of company trucks right now.

Well, for a solo lease op, zero dollar paychecks are a way of life. Sometimes they're followed by decent checks, sometimes not. A company driver should do better than that, but 1100 miles isn't much. I would be having a discussion with my DM, if I were not getting miles, and learning some tricks from other drivers. There are a few things one can do to get more miles, but I'm not going to share them, because I need the miles for myself right now.

Just a suggestion...I would take this up with the payroll department at Swift, not on a public forum. I can't really comment on it because I've never had any reason to take a personal advance on my check. I would sell my fair white body before I let myself get that low on funds!

I've never known them not to reimburse tolls, as long as the receipts are scanned properly with the trip paperwork.

To quote Daffy Duck, "This week is next week's last week." It takes them a week to process payroll for the previous week. So if you get paid this week, you're really getting paid for last week's last week, which is the week before last. Next week, you will get paid for this week's next week's week before last.

Umm...that sounds like a lot of weeks! How many is "numerous"? You said:

I'm not good at remembering holidays because mine are different from yours, but isn't Thanksgiving in late November? How many paychecks for $0 and $60 could there have been?

Wow. They let him go home for his son's birthday?

Well, I'm not Jeane Dixon, perhaps (he) will chime in on this thread, but I have to predict...probably not, and certainly not if he stays in trucking.

Tuition reimbursement is something that Swift pays, not something that they take out, but wait just a minute here. What loan company? I don't think we're getting all of the facts. Did your husband borrow the money to go to driving school and then expect Swift to pay for it?

There are other Swift posts that describe drivers going through all the training and then being told there are no trucks and to keep calling back to check in. Obviously Swift is not paying these drivers that don't have trucks. Swift has started a new scam that has 'qualified' drivers on stand-by that they do not have to pay.

Yeah, that's some "scam" alright. Meanwhile, there is nothing, absolutely nothing, keeping that qualified "standby" driver from applying elsewhere.

I hadn't heard of these pay issues before. Did your husband get Payroll on the phone and go over every single "advance" that was taken from his check? Or was he taking more personal advances than he bothered to tell you about? Company advances are limited to $105/wk and can be taken without explanation. Personal advances can be taken as needed, but must be approved by the company. I'm assuming company driver here. It's very easy to let advances get ahead of you. However, if you are authorized to discuss his pay with Swift, I would suggest you go through each advance individually to be sure someone is not defrauding you and Swift.

I suspect, though, you may find Hubby has some 'splainin to do.

Hubby has been with swift for 9 months now. The only issue we have had pay wise, was with scale reimbursements. He'd submit them, swift would deny them, finally hubby found out he needed to put the trip number(?) on them. Once he found out, swift paid for them all. As Injun said, you have to keep all receipts and ck every week to make sure you get paid for them, if you dont, ASK! This is a new venture for most of us and there is alot to learn. A driver has alot more to do then just show up. He/she needs to keep on top of everything, from the miles, the pay, the truck etc. It pays to be pushy. Make sure the dm is doing their job and you are getting paid every penny. And if something doesn't seem right ask ask ask!!!! And stay away from advances, they will eat up a pay check before you know it.

I am a new Swift co. Driver. I too had a bad trainer but stuck it out and later filed a detailed complaint against him rather than have it out with him. I finished training Dec 16 and got to spend Christmas with my family. Yes it takes awhile to get a truck. I started on Jan 3. Haven't had any problems with payroll and since we get paid every week I don't feel the need for an advance. Whatever you paid for out of pocket like a Cat scale or something you must scan it and make sure it has your driver code and the trip number written on it to get reimbursed. I'm also guessing the industry as a whole picks up in a few weeks. My complaints about Swift has been a lack of certain info on the pre-plan and the conditions at some of the terminals. I just don't think they care enough in Texas There have been some other tiny issues but they are probably industry wide. I also wish it was easier to get ahold of my dm. I am also of the opinion that the OP needs to get some facts straight.
