Well I guess the tv and paper got it wrong then when they said greatwide and publix couldn't come to an agreement on rates. 130 drivers will be laid off in march 2011.

i'm inclined to agree with you, they are good at screwing the O/O too.the 25% they get isn't enough. They charge you a fee if they have to do any kind of paper work, even when it was their screw up in the first place. It seems like they are trying to become another Landstar, only they haven't told the O/O that you have to find your own freight. It just sort of happened. The big difference is Greedwide doesn't have ANY of their own freight,it's all brokered.:biggrin_25521:

NO PUBLIX is not the only account Greatwide has in Fl.. I read the same article it didn't say they couldn't come to an agreement it said greatwide informed publix it was no longer profitable to continue.. Greatwide are greedy sob's they get theirs the rest be #### . When I read the headline I laughed I was hoping they were in trouble. Then I read the article it was completely different than the headline.. Yeah they are closing down Publix 4/1, they also said they are working on ways to maintain a relationship with Publix.

Well I just did a short stint running for greatwide & I will say this much, they are single handily are the dumbest clueless bunch of people I have ever dealt with. They dispatch loads with trailer #'s that are empty & have no idea what trailer the load is on. They also have no clue as to when or if a customer is even open. I'm glad I'm done with those fools!!

Not arguing just stating fact you are the one that said they are "all done here in fl" . I wish they would go away for good, but they won't they own to much and steal from the o/o's daily. The only way this company will go away is when the economy turns around and jobs start to open back up out there., in other words either 2013 or 2017

Wal-mart has a significant role in the meltdown between Publix and Greatwide/Southpoint. You will not see that posted publicly but IT IS a big factor. The friction that exists between Wal-mart and Publix is quite real. And Greatwide stuck in between is the first carrier that I'm aware of to lose out. Any other carriers serving both Publix and Wal-mart may wanna take notice of how this plays out.

I,m only a newbie off to trucking school but I wasn't born yesterday.
I've been doing a lot of research before making this career change and one thing is certain...trucking and trucking companies are going through some major changes and not for the better either.
If you want to get facts go on line to the 2010 issue of Transport Topics listing of the top 100 For-Hire Carriers.
It shows only 5 companies in the black the rest bleeding red.
Just about ALL the big players have been taking revenue hits of 15-20% on the down side and some to the tune of over 50%.
The report also shows that companies have shed employees and sold off assets in an effort to save money.

I can't find the article, or I'd give the link, but it interviewed several top transportation CEOs.
They said the whole transportation sector has been on a downward slid since 1997 and things have been accelerating since 2008.
This has led to a lot of mergers and acquisitions as companies who can't adapt quickly enough fall into financial problems and are being scooped up by the bigger fish.
The article pointed out that about 1/3 of current trucking firms, as of 2010, are considering buy outs before they go under.

Companies know their only chance of survival is squeezing every penny to boost the bottom line or face extinction.
ALL Companies are in business to turn a profit...they aren't social welfare agency or in the business of handing out benefits to employees...unless it serves their purposes.
The hard truth is truckers work in an industry that is financially shaky due to a slow economy....welcome to reality and the working world of free market Capitalism.
This should give you some insight into the shenanigans happening in FL.

Both my parents went through the Great Depression and two things they drilled into me were...nobody owes you anything...if you want something go out and get it!!!
I hate to say it but most people today seem to believe otherwise which should inform you of the results of the last presidential election.
The current economic times seem similar to those my parents lived through back in the 30s.
Unfortunately, just like the trucking companies, most people aren't tough enough to adapt to the times and wonder why someone isn't there to kiss their boo boos when they fall down and get scrapped up.

Actually Laidback might be better off moving on.
From what I've read on this forum and others...this company sxxxs!!
There must be other companies that don't check felony record that far back and would hire an experienced person with a clean record.
As to seeking legal redress, if you win your case and stay with the company do you really think you'll be popular with management?
Frankly, I wouldn't even want to work for a company that would use such trivial reasons to see me to the door.

I don't mean any bad feeling towards the drivers, but as for as the company, I guess they do really have a one track mine, like the commerical says. So one track that they only held the contract for five years and puff it's done. Once they bought out SouthPoint to get the Publix contract it did nothing but get worse every year untill Publix told them do split....
I would look for the Johns, the owners of SouthPoint, to come back in a year or so and run just like it use too (with Publix). Lord knows they made enough money off of Greatwide when they sold they company to them... ha ha ha ....

Greatwide was just named the secondary on the Gainesville, FL (Alachua) dollar general account. They need 30-40 dedicated drivers by August 1st, so Greatwide is far from done in Florida. The primary is Werner with over 100 trucks on this account. Tough physical work but pays pretty good. Drivers start at 35 cents per mile, $51 per trailer, and $21.50 per stop. So if you drive say 2100 miles per week with 3 trailers and 13 stops, you gross $1167.50 per week. If you live in Florida you're probably home a couple nights per week, and in no time your muscles will have muscles on them because DG ain't for #######. And Florida is hot as all get out. If you need to lose a few LB's this is the job for you. Thinking about hoppin' on myself but still need to do more due dilligence on this co. As a side note the secondary DG out of Fulton, MO is Hogan and they are hiring right now with a $2500 sign-on bonus for Dollar General dedicated. They pay $250 per month for the first 10 months.
