I am trainer with Werner. I have had students come off my truck and straight on to a dedicated run. The big trick is whats ava, in your area. if there is something in your area but its full keep calling the dispatch for that account or run..

Load planning is done over dispatches head. Dispatch just deals with problems, sets up swaps to meet customer/driver needs, or insures ontime performance/ or appointment changes or delays..... but then some dipatchers are good and other are yes people oh well its dinner time/ home time next

How do you feel about Werner as a company?

As for students, I've heard others claim that Werner's version of "Training" is cheap team driving labor? My question is, do you train from the passenger seat or the sleeper?

I'm considering Werner, but I have my reservations...

    Thanks.

I have just left werner for a local company that meets My needs.
I am new to the biz 6 months experience at werner. Did werner do what they promised? well yes and no. I did learn how to drive and backup safely by the luck of the draw with a excellent trainer.I did learn how to drive in traffic and some severe winter conditions.
I have passed six level two inspections with no violations. so yes in that regard I did well with my training. I drove 48 OTR as a part of a team, that was a bad experience
Driver were right out of training ,blind leading the blind, not a good thing in my opinion
went into the pony express run, Great run, problems were not driving or the run
it was working 13 hours to get paid for 9 hours of driving ,, 11 pm to 11 am were the hours that my shift ran and the dispatchers thought it was not a issue to work 12 to 14 hours a shift. well after waiting most nites 30 min plus to get my trip info ,then do A VI on the trailer it was midnight before I could take off, and at the split 264 miles away it was another 30-1 hour wait for the other driver normally so we could swap trailers , then home again , when the timing for both drivers was good and no trl problems we could finish in 10.5 hours ,, that was the exception ,not the rule
Werner biggest problem is the Breakdown dept for repairs ,, it can and does take 3.5 to 4 hours to get them to approve a po to the vendor for repairs, only then can repairs start so if the trl has bad tire you spend hours trying to get a new one and then you do not have enough hours to make the run so you lose that days pay and werner only paid us 20 bucks for the time we spent in repairs, I averaged 324 a week take home in the six months I worked there, but I did my time did not ##### or whine , just did the necessary time so I could find another company that pays better.
I am now getting paid for all the 'free" time that Werner expected from me. Do the time and move on is my advice its a hard industry with its own problems ,but there are good jobs if you make the effort to find them.

    AfterShock Thanks this.

flat tires take at up to five hours to approve - before actual repair

bad batteries (twice in one year) actually took over 10 hours for Werner to approve ... my husband actually came home, slept, and went back and it was still not approved. All this waiting without pay either and it costs the next day's work.

and the electronic log is no plus either ... if you start at the wrong minute in timing - it can cost you 15 minutes .... which might mean the difference of getting where you want ....

Some of these co's think that you don't have to spend $$ to make $$.

That's why they're screwed up as they are. It don't hurt the co at all to sit all day, just the driver gets screwed.

Had an accident as trainee. I recently had a accident cause by biker felt he needed to pass the truck as close as possible the cut in front as close has he could. I was forced to take the guard rail of a bridge while braking hard to vaoid hitting him. The truck blow the front tire which sent me into the other guard rail. I managed to get the truck and trailer off the road but not before the tractor caught fire. Myself and the trainer did get out unhurt. we lost everything, Werner put us up in hotel for one night and told us we were on our own. What kind of company that advertises live the dream and we care treats their employees who did everything to avoid ther accident and kill someone that way. I had to pay out of my pocket not only my way home but my trainers as well. All I know Werner is nothing but a bunch of BS.

Well also , why swerve off road to avoid him, if he's that dumb and wants to get run over , then let him. Swerving put the accident on you instead of motorcycle.
