Trucking Jobs in 30 seconds

this is not a stevens thread this is werner
-
Took home 700 means gross of 1000, took 70 hrs to make 1000 so
1000/70 =14.28 p hr.
So for the joy of living in a truck for weeks on end, maybe getting a day or two at home each month, enduring poor dispatchers, nasty shippers/receivers, breakdowns you get 14.28 an hour, I think i will get a job at 7-11......what flavour slurpee did want sir!!!! -
casc1...oh I know exactly what you are talking about and you know what....I did that same exact thing for 5yrs with CRE. I thought I would make great money, but no. It was worse there. Also I was an owner op so my check were usually alot less..pplu soing my own taxes, etc. At least as a company driver I stand to make SOME money and I get to see the country. So I am familiar with the ups and downs.

Any drivers currently with werner know anything about the dedicated dollar general account im starting next week with 28 years OTR would like to know about miles and money office tells me between 800 and 900 a week
-
I'm not currently with Werner. But I worked for them and did the Dollar General account for a week. They asked for volunteers and said they would pay us $800-$1000. Northern Mississippi. Can't remember the town. Anyhoo.. a bunch of us showed up and did the work. They cut us loose the morning of payday... So a few hours down the road we all realized we weren't being paid what they advertised. Had to fight with them and even go wayyyyy up the totem pole... but finally got the other $600 they owed me.
Not a new story. All the big companies seem to try and scrape the drivers.
It's alot of work unloading the trucks. But the pay can be pretty decent. Most of the guys who worked Werner and did the Dollar General full time liked the money. I just don't trust the big companies. They are good to start with... I made 49k my first year. But it was a constant battle and had to be a total s.o.b. most of the time.
I think the pay was about $1200 net a week... back in '08. But you earn it. Lotta fun in the back of a trailer in Mississipi in August.
Hope that helped you some. -
My advice to any newbie with Werner is this... What I did...
Call the driver placement every day. Make them get to know you. Ask every day for a dedicated something. I was on Vans.. 48 States straight out of training and wasn't getting anything.
I kept pestering them. Finally someone from Driver Placement called me and basically said.. "Are you that hillbilly that keeps calling asking for miles...?"
I said, "I certainly am." They offered me the Perdue chicken reefer account. Lotta night driving. All JIT loads. Smelly chicken plants.... But 3,000 miles a week. So you're immediately bringing home $700 a week. Not bad for just being out of school. Helps you pay off the loan and start learning the industry while making some money.
But like I said... be ready to fight and struggle. Werner is not known for being kind to their drivers.
Good luck all. -
And don't sign a lease/purchase agreement.
I repeat. Do NOT sign a lease/purchase agreement.
Hope that's clear.
Don't sign a lease agreement.BossOutlaw88 Thanks this. -
Or you can just do some research and go a different route with a company that is known to be kinder to drivers
