Students, do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. JB, Schnieder, or even Swift have got to be better than Werner. Take it from a guy that has been here for 11 years you won't be happy here for long.

Why have I been here so long, well truth be told the first 5-6 years were not all that bad, but things have straight down the tubes in the last 5 years. I don't think that I'll be able to "stick it out" too much longer.

I am by no means a slacker. I am "supposed" to be long haul 48 state driver, but that's another issue I will get into shortly. I will drive as hard as they will allow me. My goal is a modest 3400 miles as a solo driver, there have been a few times where I have been able to meet or exceed that goal. (Believe it or not). But lately that has been becoming harder and harder to do thanks to Werner's Pony Express.

What is the Pony Express you ask? Well it is what they lovingly refer to as Net Ops. Big Blue Screw Machine in hyper drive is what it really is.

Regional and long haul drivers have to make all the pick ups and deliveries while an army of part timers in day cabs drive all the gravy miles off of the loads. They never have to bump a dock, deal with the 2 lane back roads and in most cases never see the heavily congested areas such as DC, Baltimore, or Chicago.

Freight may be slow, but these golden child SOB's would never know it. It's the long haul and regional drivers that have to sit around and bear the pain. Another fine example of how the big blue screw machine does things back asswards. These part timers should be making all the pick ups and deliveries and the long haul drivers should be driving all the miles off the loads. Oh wait, they unofficially retired that term, there are no long haul drivers any more the 48 state drivers should be getting all the gravy miles.

But why do that when you can pay all these part timers a lesser wage because they get home every night? It just makes me mad when I see how little they really care these days. This is not the same company I started with almost 11 years ago.

I have up until this year never had any problems getting to home time on time, but here in the last 7 months I have been late 4 times. I think that part of this may be due to the fact that the Blue Screw Machine may have caught on to the fact that I have been taking my time off on opposite ends of the country in order to get out of the regional ruts that they love to keep you in. (Part of the reason that I was getting better miles).

I have done this now for the past year and a half. You know just trying to work within what the system can offer me. Now every time I keep calling in to ##%$! about my low productivity, all they can do is suggest that I become a trainer. My response is always the same, "if you can't keep the drivers you have busy why in the Hell are you hiring more?" After reading the posts here I can see that the turn over rate is much higher than I had thought. And given the fact that these students are used as slave labor, I can see why they are always pushing for trainers. Another sign that it's time to move on, Werner in an effort to keep the driver pay scale low is actively looking to hire Mexicans. Come on guys we're already the lowest paid drivers on the road. How about a little more fair compensation for the sacrifices we make to be out here? It's time to update the pay scale. Especially for things like Long Island pay. You guys are stuck in the 70's. $25 a day layover is a joke. That may have been fair compensation in 1975, but this is 2007, some places that won't even get you a pizza delivered. What a joke.

Sorry guys, but I have morals and cannot with a clear conscience promote, encourage, or lead people into becoming fodder to the big blue screw machine. Quite the contrary, I tell them the truth as I know it, as I have lived it.

I will keep on looking at all of the other companies out there until I find one that I feel comfortable going to. But trust me. When I do make the move I will not put as much time in there as I did here if I can see that it's not a good move.

Bottom line, at this point in time don't drive for Werner.

Well dude!! you summed it up purdy well.
I only wasted a year and a half of my valuable time at that BOTTOM OF THE BARREL COMPANY

WERNER IS A BAD CHOICE OF A PLACE TO WORK
DON'T DO IT!!!!!:biggrin_2551 3:

Praise the Lord!

Someone has preached the truth and hath spoke it thus for all to hear! Man, I was only in for 4 months when they start saying "You can make more money as a trainer." I said "I know how I was a newbie, I scared the ^&*&* out of myself sometimes. The last thing I need is to have someone on the truck with me who doesn't know much and I only know I little bit more than them." They pass those doggone lease brochures out the 1st day of orientation. Knowing full well that 98% of the 85-90 drivers just left truck school last week. They kept me sitting days at a time in places cause there were no loads and then had the audacity to complain to me about low proformance. They actually tried to re-recrute me this year when I tried at another company only to be rejected because the preventable I had 2 years ago was documented twice. I told them to correct there report, said they would, twice: last year and this year. Then tried to say in the most cheerful voice he had, "You lookin' to come back. I can get you on a regional and you'd be home every weekend if you wanted."

I wanted to shout at this dude a tell him to kiss my black um behind. Funny thing is, when I left them last fall and went to Hogan out of Dublin, Ga. We had orientation in Columbus, Ga. and I met a fellow former Werner-ite who said they did him the same way, which is why Hogan had to send him him. There is something to that.

Heed this warning STAY AWAY FROM WERNER ENTERPRISES.

P.S. That paperless log thing is some b.s., man.

There was a gentleman whom I spoke to a while back, his opinion is that the only reason Werner keeps drivers for any amount of time is because of the fact that they're the last big company running Long-Hood trucks.

My training required two trainers, which wasn't itself so bad- but the trainers were bad. I went a few times more than 24 hours without a meal, after unloading a truck, and once 4 days without a shower. Both instructors had bad attitudes and were hardly qualified. One made us late by gambling for 9 hours.

My training through Werner was bad as well First trainer was up front with me first day from there on out during my time with him he stayed in the sleeper didnt want to run team situation was only with him 2 weeks or so because he wouldnt let me stop to relieve myself it was always this dedacated acoount we have to go go go never did get use to his pissing in a bottle hated that, plus whenever he had to take a crap at a shipper, it was to always go onto the cat walk & do his business (bet the shippers loved that or even more the drivers who went to that spot after him & he got home everynight other night i slept in his house on the couch had a big family this sucked because they were dirty & it was very uncomfortable situation (made me more homesick being # his home almost everynight) Plus we passed the exit to my house well within 20 miles of my house everyday but wasnt alloed anytime at home. Sucked
Do I even want to go there with my second trainer Got out of the first situation quick but anyway nice guy got along well 4 days out & I wake up one moring step off the top bunk & slip on a magazine & fall on my ### looked down & it was a gay porno. He said oh I left them out there incase you wanted something to read i said NO WAY MAN not my thing. Called my girlfriend scared to death was gonna get raped or something & he was a big guy compared to me. Girlfriend told me to hang in there so i did & he never said aymore or did anything to me But dang was i scared.................

Of course, no miles, no pay, and as a result I am about starving out here. I have been asked to drive for as little as 600 miles a week, not a day, and make only 26 cents a mile driving it. That comes to a whopping $156 gross per week. No driver in their right mind would agree to that. It seems like Werner doesn't have the business they claim they have, and the weekend and evening dispatchers are not at all helpful. I have looked into driving for another company, unfortunately, they want more OTR experience. I have no accidents but still am so new that I am probably stuck with Werner or will have to into a different line of work, and will still owe on my truck driving school loan. I have talked to other Werner drivers who have had a year or more and some of them are experiencing the same thing. I did not sign up to get rich, but I always thought that truck driving was a stable, respectable way to earning a decent living. Are other drivers out there having the same problem?
you are not alone dsw swift same thing .hold on for 6 more months .red dog

Werner screwed me for the last time!!!

I was getting really Sick due to Gaul Bladder stones. It started to affect my high on time %, so i decided i needed to get My Gaul bladder removed. i told my dispatcher this, and told me to take medical leave. i turned in my truck at a terminal. Then i called my dispatcher and his boss to make sure i would have my position in the dedicated account when i come back. They both said yes as long as i can get loads there on time. I was ready to come back i called them and they said they didn't like where i lived and it was to hard to get me home. Even though i lived in the same place from the beginning. I called driver placement and they have nothing available at this time. So i am sitting and waiting and no money coming in. so i applied to other company's, and i start orientation tomorrow with priority transportation.

well...ive been with werner since end of 05' all i can say is that it really aint that bad. i run the jimmy dean account out of newbern,tn and i get home every 2 weeks. when im solo i get 25-3500miles and as a trainder i get around 4000-4800. if u look at it, everyone has flaws. you just have to find ur place with a company and deal with it. ur gonna get crap whereever u go, no matter what. even as an o/o . werner might not be good for but it may be good for the next. took 3hrs to read this post Lol...

My experience with Werner.

When I was offered my truck ( going to first seat) I was offered a truck that I had to recover,I thought long and hard about it since I was told it had been sitting there for 3 months and they didn't know what shape it was in.But I did it.((( The driver got sick leaving from home time and was taken to the hospital and his DM was trying to "hold on " to his truck for him till he returned or quit as I found out later.))) What I found was a 06 379 Pete, with less than 40,000 miles(lucked out) that was FILTHY,sitting in the La. summer heat didn't do the stuff in the frig any good and it was ant heaven. The tow/storage owner went ahead and paid for the fumigating and detailing since he felt responcible for the food being over looked.2 days later I was on my way,and running,I never sat longer than a day anywhere unless I was on my reset or home time.BUT,My husband noticed that trips wasn't on my pay,and when I would raise the issue with the pay office they would tell me that the trips I was trying to claim was ran by and paid to another driver ((( I did make and keep a copy of every trip sheet))) and that I wasn't getting what another driver earned, then at home for home time I got food poisoning and had to stay in bed,in less than 12 hours after the paperwork from the doctor was faxed to them my truck was towed, cleaned out, assigned to another driver, and picked up.And to rub dirt into a open sore, the towing company was told that the reason it was needed to be picked up was because I had abanded it.I was lucky to get my stuff from them since the driver told them they could have it.The only thing that saved my DAC was hubby talking me into contacting another company and faxing in the authorization forms and them checking my DAC.During oreiontation I was told that I had an abandonment on my DAC,I had him talk to my recruiter and share info, werner put it on there after they were contacted by the other company, and they removed it when the other company called their bluff.
Had they paid me for the work I done and not play repo games I would have stayed with them.Sorry so long but I had a few things to say.

werner student please read

well here it goes. the recruiter will tell you that u have to drive 275 hours. well good luck on that one, they will tell you that u have to drive a additinal 150 to 200 hours because they dont have the equipment for you. when the funniest thing is in the dallas tx terminal they have about 250 new trucks. but heres the catch. werner is so cheap they bought a 2007 truck with a 2006 engine. great deal wrong. they cant get the truck to pass emission test therefore they cant be drove on the road. how cheap can you get. ok next the trainer they give you might have only 3 months experience on the road thats really safe aint it. nope. the trainer gets paid for your miles that you drive and he still treats you like crap. when you call in to talk to your sdm all he says is drive and dont call me. they are rude and treat you like #### on the bottom of there shoes. then they tell you you can run the region you live in and make good money. yeah right. if you think about 400 a week is good money then u are crazy. this company is the worst company ever. my trainer has been with werner for 3 years and i just started a month ago. the difference between his employee number and mine is 319000 people. in three years they have gone through that many people wuts up with that. another thing is that dot forced werner to go to computerized logs because all of there wrecks in the past, they were always in violation. and dot told them if they didnt go to paperless logs that they wouldnt run on the roads. thats pretty bad. they dont care about anyone that they employ. and when your trainer goes home he will put you in a hotel, not to bad huh. well i thought great. well the hotel water heater broke down and didnt want to fix it. so i had to take a cold shower for 4 days. nice... and his reason i couldnt move to another hotel is that the company wouldnt allow it. how is that for you. and u better hope ur not on the road around a holiday because u wont get home. you will go to orientation near your house and they say you can go home in the middle of your trianing. heres the catch. when you get a trainer he runs the oppisite side of the usa so when you wanna go home u only get 1 day travel time. well if your in washington and wanna go home the bus ride is 5 days so you only get to be home for 3 days. thats really nice when they will tell you u get a whole week off. not. anyquestion please feel free to ask.
