Hi again karen, I see you guys are still having problems with werner. After seeing your posts I have been speaking to a couple of people I run into at the truckstops and have asked around. I have been driving less than a year for the company that I work for however, I knew what I was getting into in the industry. ![]() But, to get to you, the people I have spoken to with werner and with other companies, I am getting the same round about answers. This industry is all about the bottom line......... A driver is only as good as the amount of money he/she is costing a company.(Meaning, time with a co. gets you to higher pay scale, experience costs more than a newer driver etc.) Their are people who will argue that you cannot replace experience but, that is true to a point. Co.'s have insurance and have even implemented zero tolerance policies for preventable-non preventable accidents. This creates fear for one thing in a driver and will eliminate a problem driver before he/she costs the co. alot of money. When a co. can get a new driver and pay them $.30 p/m that adds up to alot of profit against just even $.39-$.42 p/m When a co. from what I am hearing and understanding and also not just related to pay, want a person to go that has not had any major problems they try the attrition tactic. Tell the driver no loads available or gives them crappy loads continuously hoping the driver will get fustrated enough, broke enough or desperate enough to leave. This way the driver has no grounds also for un-employment. Even an at will state has to show just cause to a point to fire someone. If your fiance has been doing his job well and they cannot find a particular reason to fire him it sounds to me like attrition. This situation is also not limited to pay and those sort of things I mentioned above but unfortunately, if he at some point rubbed his dispatcher the wrong way he might also be on the short end of the stick. It is hard in this industry to be appreciated by a company, especially a large one, for our experience day-to-day good work our commitments and the sacrifices that we make as drivers and families. As suggested and it can't be emphasized any stronger, for your fiancee' to find work elsewhere. His experience and hopefully good driving record will be appreciated at least a little better somewhere else. ![]() Again good luck to you and your fiancee' |

I am on the outside looking in and what I see is they give the good miles, if they have them to people who cater to what they want. That was nicely put for the sake of this board.

And he has filled out an application for someplace else and they say he sounds wonderful and they like the experience so they don't have to spend the money training. By the way, with Werner, he is getting paid 26 cents a mile. Have a very good day and thanks so much.

My fiance has been with Werner quite a while. I read all this to him and this is what he stated. Pay: 23 cents per mile. You have to complete 275-325 hours worth of training. After training you sit at a terminal for 3-5 days waiting for a truck so he will be home in possibly 3 weeks.

| My husband started working for Werner April 28 and he has still not had any home time. At this very moment he is sitting at a Terminal waiting for his truck. He actually got the truck yesterday but pretty much everything under the sun was wrong with it so it's sitting there waiting to be looked at. He has 17 other trucks ahead of his. He has no idea when he will get to come home. He wanted to complete his first load so he could get the $500 bonus but that's impossible without a working truck. Also after he completed his 275 hours of training they tagged on an extra 40 hours and after he completed that he drove around with his trainer for an additional 4 days before he got to a terminal. Now they give him a POS truck. He was laid off from his job of 7 years and this seemed to be the only alternative. But quite frankly it is not worth it. We have a 4 month old that has not seen his father for over half of his life. We thought he would be finished with this ######## training and home by now. Please if you are considering working for Werner please DO NOT! His SDM was no help either. He was planning on driving team and has a team partner and everything. They are both waiting at the terminal. Both of their SDM's had them in the computer as solo drivers although they told them both that they were going to drive team. They don't even know if they are making money while they are waiting. They kicked them out of the hotel this morning because they don't have anymore hotel vouchers. They said they can sleep in the truck which does not have an APU in it and they aren't allowed to idle. So WTF. This company is just down right WRONG. I am so angry with them. My husband has invested so much time and money in this career change and it's hard for him to give up and quit. I can understand that but if a company keeps lying to you and treats you like crap why should you stay with a company that's going to treat you that way. |
