Trailer miles

when i started driving for Werner i was getting hosed for about 10% of my miles i was told at truck driving school that was about average
when i left Werner it was down to about 5%
they started using a different system to calculate miles and some times i got paid for more miles than i drove i know this because i used a GPS to keep track i still lost but not as much if your running 3000-3500 miles a week and loosing 200 miles thats good thats just over 6% for 3000 i hear people not getting miles that concerns me 3000 a week should be the low average

You only hear bad things about the big companies because anytime someone posts something good about them 4 or 5 other people attack them and call them a liar.

My dad has been driving for Werner for 6 years and has never had any major complaints. Sometimes he wouldn't get paid for a load right away but it always showed up on his next check. I don't know how many miles he was averaging but it payed all the bills every month so it couldn't have been too bad. He drove 48 states for a while then a dedicated route for Kraft Foods and is now driving shag in Kansas City. When my mom was diagnosed with terminal cancer this summer they let him take a 90 day leave of absence to take care of her until she passed away. He had no problems going back to work 2 weeks after the funeral. They have also been williing to let him go home for doctor's appointments on several occations without giving him any grief about it.

I am also going with Werner when I get out of school next month. I am hoping to get on the dollar General account. I am not expecting to get rich but anything has to be better than making $11.50/hr turning wrenches in my hometown.

Exactly Farva....I drive for werner, i have for 3 years. I dont have any major complaint, never been screwed with pay or my miles. People like me come on here and talk good about a big company like Werner and i get called an Kiss ###. You only get screwed with Werner if you let them screw you. I am home daily, i used to be on the Anheuser Busch dedicated acct that got me home every weekend since i live in Indianapolis...will probably get back on that acct because i kinda miss it, and i also miss the money. BOL to you with Werner, Farva.

Marten's is willing to take me but I have to go thru team driving as training for 2 weeks.

Does anyone recommend a company that offers some reasonable miles?

i think you need to find a owner to work with or something , they are gonna give you miles no problem !!! what city are you in ?

I read that ordinaryguy and had to laugh! But they sure don't like it if you dis[ute something they say or ask. You will get less miles if you do not agree with them and voice you opinion.

My boyfriend got fired from Werner for idling but I am happy about it. He now has a job making 12 an hour, 40hrs a week. Home every night and off weekeends and the best part, we can pay bills!!!!

hen i ran OTR for Werner, i've said "No" a couple of times, and they never lowered my miles...You dont work for your Fleet Manager, they work for you. True, #### does happen, but you kinda hafta expect it to. Trucking isnt for sissies. Best thing for Werner, get on something Dedicated, better pay, and better Fleet Managers usually.

Congradulations on finding a job that works for you guys. Being home every night is great for most people. I am single with no kids so I don't mind being gone all the time. I was bringing home $700/week in the military and took a pay cut when I got out. $11.50/hr was barely paying my bills. I have a lot of toys that I'm paying on. I was bringing home a little over $350/week and it was all going to bills. I'm hoping to be bringing home at lest $500/week at Werner.

I've read a few posts on here about getting fired for Idling. Is that becoming a common thing now days? Do they have a limit for how long you can idle? I have been unable to find any info about this from their website or from recruiters. (yes I know recruiters rarely ever tell you the truth) I know a lot of states have idling laws but haven't heard of a company having rules about it.

A lot of companies are getting picky about idle time lately. The company my hubby drives for almost fired a guy that had an idle time of over 60%. They gave him a second chance, but they will be watching him like a hawk. They have fired other drivers for high idle times.Try picking your DM's brain on this if they have one (a brain that is). Fuel costs are dropping some from what they were over the summer, but with the economy in the shape it's in right now, things are getting tight. I know that Werner does have some trucks with APU's on them, which will help keep idle time down during the cold or hot months. Hope that helps a bit!
