Werner probably didn't know why he was fired, they are more discriminatory now then they were before being fired from a trucking job is a big red flag. Did he even tell them why? Did they call and the boss lie? Is the poster telling the accurate story? Did the boss fire him for something else to cover his tracks as I really doubt the boss fired him for reporting him exactly and may have instead looked for the first thing he could fire him for. There are lots of various things that can effect employment chances.

Here is a comment: I have been reading this and I got to ask: "Did whoever it was get fired from Werner for something illegal?"

I am reading all the threads and I had come to the conclusion that whoever was working for Werner and Werner had them do something illegal. If so, sue the hell out of Werner!!!!!

Bulldozer Illegal

Didnt realize this would be so confusing.

I quit werner after 7 years of excellent performance i was tired of driving over the road. got a job with a local company told the owner i wouldnt do any thing illegal
well that didnt last long the 2nd week i had just over 37 hrs of drive time in 2 days got 3 hrs at home between shifts
as i worked there i tried to shore up thier safety program or lack of
when i started they never did inspections writen or other wise had no concept of safety and i dont think any one there even knows all the rules a trucking company is to follow
i was never drug screened to work there i found out later is a requirement
there are never any safety meetings

I didnt know what i got myself into when i started there
when i got canned i had worked there for a little over a year and just had enough hauling the hazmat without permits just sent me over the edge
im a reasonable person i told the owner if i was going to do something illegal i wanted to know about it if its my ### on the line i want to decide
he didnt honor that request so i felt i didnt need to protect him any longer
at the time i was involved in a state legal issue that had nothing to do with him but i was required to be truthful in my job experiences lying to them didnt out weigh my fleeing obligation to that crapy company

So i thought i could get a job with werner again well they said they wouldnt hire me if my dac said i got fired
i talked to my old driver manager he said he doesnt think the owner even reported to dac that he fired me we are friends and when i told him about this he asked me how werner would know the boss fired me
i tell ya i offered to quit the day before he canned me im thinkin he knew this would screw me him firein me

At least YOU'LL get the last laugh.

If I were you, I'd be checking what your former employer put on your
DAC record. Who knows, he might be charged with defamation of character
and/or filing a false report, and you'd be entitled to punitive damages.
nope i didnt know anything about this thanks for letting me know i may have to take this up a notch

I'm still trying to figure out why this is posted in this forum about Werner being a bad company. Is it because they won't hire someone who was fired from a previous employer? If so, I hope all of the other company threads are updated since I'm sure the lot would do the same.

Back to what I thought the spirit of the new post was about, I would have checked my DAC before bringing anything up regarding previous employment to Werner or whoever (friends or not) If the jagoffs responsible for firing you were as unscrupulous and dishonest as you say they were, they were careful to not report your dismissal honestly as to bring attention to themselves. Also, I would look into violations regarding your dismissal as noted in a previous post, it is illegal for a company to even ask you to do anything illegal.

I can't believe what has happened. My fiance was so excited to go with Werner. he is older and changed careers. He had always heard Werner was the 'top dog'. Well, like all of you, he dished out tons of money, did great in school, is professional, clean, great attitude, ethical, honest, hard working...all of the things WERNER is supposedly claimed to be. Well, his 2nd day on the road as a student, he was told to switch lanes in Chicago. His trainer was screaming at him, although he didn't feel comfortable switching in Chicago on a construction zone. He did, and got a ticket from some ####### state trooper. Werner said not to worry and he continued with this ### trainer (dirty, always yelling, sloppy, not allowing my man to sleep or stop or shower). The trainer kept telling him he was going to quit. My man finally asked to switch trainers. They sent him to Atlanta and told him he was fired for unsafe driving. Meanwhile the only ticket my man every got was this one in Chicago as a student the second day driving!!! They put him on a 20 hour bus ride back home. Now, he is totally disallusioned. Is t his going to blackball him? Do we have any recourse? He is thinking about Pitt-Ohio, but they want experience> What about Shafer? Swift? Any feedback. HELP! This is insane. He was totally shistered and screwed over unfairly and unjustly. Meanwhile this ### is training and doing a terrible job.

after all the negative that is posted here about werner, he should have stayed away. all these companies are big talkers, but what they really offer you is not what they describe. anyway, he needs to get that ticket taken care of, and see what was put on his dac report, then i would try covenant, swift, not cr england. covenant is leniant and swift IMO is better at training than covenant. but his eperience at covenant will be better than werner, it still will be hard untill he is on his own.
time is the only thing at this job that makes it worth it, right now the economy and freight shortage are not on the drivers side.
i was trained at swift, and it was by far the best i could have been given, and i never heard many grumbles from trainees about their trainers. he has to let the new company know and undrestand that he wants a good trainer that will ensure his staying at that company.
i hope that this helped.....remember, it's a long way up the pole from being a newbie trainee then a rookie to an experienced driver.
by the way, i had a nutcase trainer at werner also, he got mad because i wouldn't speed on black ice, plus he did not want me to eat, pee, poo,or sleep. and that was it, off the truck i went to another company, there are better ones out there, do your homework and call and ask lots of questions.
best of luck....

First of all, let me say WELCOME to the forums, Daisy Sue.

Know what I've been thinkin' lately?
I think these arm-pit, starter truckin' companies really want their trainees to be the OPPOSITE of how you've described your fiancee.
It would seem to me that a training company would have trainers that their trainees would strive to emulate. If they're allowing funky, dirt-bags who holler and give bad instruction, maybe that's the kind of drivers they're lookin' for.

Can you imagine the responses they'd get if they advertised ---
Wanted: Big truck truck drivers who lack self control who are willing to disregard DOT rules, accustomed to go weeks without a shower, wear baggy pants, or shorts, showing half their buttox and dirty underware, rarely, if ever, clean the exterior or interior of their Big truck, who possess a generally bad attitude, care less about safety, are gullible and believe they know it all --- after 3 weeks of driving school............. see where I'm goin' with this?

Do you really think the state trooper was the "#######"?
I'd say it was his trainer who IS the "#######".

I was a driver trainer, and had I instructed ANY of my trainees to do ANYthing that resulted in ANY citation, I'd put the blame on myself. After all, the TRAINER is supposed to know what they're doin'. So ANYthing a trainer did to cause a trainee to receive a citation would be the trainer's fault.
Well, maybe partly the trainee's fault if it were obviously NOT the proper thing to do. But the trainer would have no right to put all the blame on the trainee.

If the trainer were a class act, he/she would make sure that the company KNEW that the trainee was only following the trainer's instructions, and probably wouldn't have done what caused a citation if not for the trainer's instruction.

Don't worry about a citation?!!!
That pretty much sums up that trainer's attitude, doesn't it?
Quote:
The trainer kept telling him he was going to quit.
Let's hope he did, and gave up training.
Quote:

Whatta ya bet that trainer put ALL the blame on your man?
Quote:

That right there causes me to think that the trainer embellished the story --- probably out of revenge for your man requesting another trainer.

Although it's not unusual for a truckin' company to consider termination for a trainee who receives a citation, with the proper explanation frome the trainer, I would think they'd reconsider their actions based on an admission from the trainer who accepted at least part of the blame.
Quote:

Who can blame him for that?
Do as he's told and get canned?
What's wrong with this picture?
And what message is Werner sending?
Ignore our trainers because they're known to be wrong?
Quote:
Is t his going to blackball him?
Unfortunately it could.
Quote:
Do we have any recourse?
I think, if your man could manage to get a face-to-face interview with another company to explain how the citation was caused, and which resulted in his termination, he might have a good chance. The hard part is getting that face-to-face interview. If all they have is an application with an admission that a citation was issued while in training with Werner, it'll probably be placed in the circular file
Quote:

There probably are truckin' companies who will still consider your man for employment, but the quality of those companies might be questionable.
Out of the pan and into the fire?

Bottom feeder companies know that their employees have little or no choice, and treat them accordingly.

What did your man do about the citation?
I hope he did, or WILL, fight it.
DON'T just accept it and pay it!
Often the citations will be reduced, although there will still be a monetary fine. Perhaps having the citation reduced in severity will help.

At any rate, I wish y'all good luck.
Please continue to post here and keep us informed?
We'll be rooting for your man's success.
