No, I do not work for Werner however, my other half is in his 18th year with them. He is not a trainer, and he is not a "captain" and he's not on the road team. Hes a solo and has no interest in being a trainer or a corporate slave.

His best friend is in his 21st year with Werner and he is a trainer and has been for around 7-8 years. Hes one of the best and I'm not just saying that because he's a good friend, I'm saying it because its the truth. He has his own handouts and animations on his laptop (like to show tracking between the truck and the trailer when turning). There are some horror stories I could tell you like the one psycho that wanted him to drive 200 miles out of the way, under a load, into a ghetto area so she could pick up a "package"............ or the one who had multiple personalities and couldn't remember how to drive a truck...... in both cases, they ended up off the truck....

I however, was a corporate trainer for over 12 years with a Fortune 100 company so, I know a bit about training. ;)

As for the tires update? My other half called C.L's office, not Werner, but C.L.'s office and it was taken care of the same day. The dispatchers and load planner in the office kinda freaked out and asked him why he called C.L.'s office. He looked at them and said, "if you don't know, then I'm not going to tell you AGAIN for the millionth time, after two months..."

Werner lost the Walmart account about six months ago. Swift picked it up from what I understand.

Family Dollar is a bad account, in my opinion. You don't get lumpers and you have to unload the trucks yourself.

And yes, Werner is the lowest paying company out of the bigger companies........ they weren't always like that. Its just been since the boys took over.

Family Dollar is/was in the process of revamping all of their trailers with lift gates. All of the freight is loaded onto totes so the driver doesn't have to do anything but push the totes to the lift gate and put it to the ground. I know this to be fact since I was involved in a bid to shuttle their trailers to and from the company putting the lift gates on. I also know that this is in effect at Fulton Mo as well as many other locations. This is for the dedicated but I would imagine that anyone bringing anything from a vendor might not have that luxury.

I agree on the pay. I don't know what C. L. is thinking, he has to be aware of what they pay and how they treat the drivers. I guess Greg must need the money... But, I won't get into that on here.

Yea, lets not get into his cigar rooms little back room business.... :biggrin_2551:

Or his "sudden" departure from the board last year.... :Police car:

Or the company yacht.... for a company that is based in Omaha. Did Nebraska flood or something? :biggrin_25525:

    ...among other things......

Now they do have corporate jets however, I know one of them is used for the safety team when there is a serious accident. Its on 24/7 standby.

GOOD FOR HIM!!! More of that needs to happen. Often I wonder if they know what's going on with their drivers or if they do know and won't act unless someone really stirs up the dust.
Werner has "campaigns" for the drivers. Retention and all those other things. Everyone in the company is supposed to make the drivers feel warm and fuzzy. But, I think a lot of it is bunk, just something to keep the drivers thinking that they are important. Too bad, because they are... Everyone in the corporation is important, but how many of them can satisfy the customer by actually picking up and delivering the freight.
Werner's inside staff isn't paid well either so they don't get the experienced or dedicated people. They have to hire trainees. Many of them have no interest in anything but the paycheck, let alone making sure a truckdriver with issues is taken care of. There is no passion for the industry in these people. Sad, but true. You know that from what your husband has told you. It's sad though to see what's going on. I understand that they are in business to make a profit and satisfy the stockholders but at what cost to the fine employess who work to make all of this possible.

You and I probably know a lot about the "other things" LOL

The flights on the jets has been really really curtailed. This amuses me to no end, since some of the people who are important (in their own minds) have to take commercial flights now. Yes, it amuses me enough to smile while I type this. The amount of money those people waste is incredible. I won't go into the cost of what each seat costs the company when the plane leaves the ground.
The jet that's there for the safety team is not a waste, it is a very needed thing.

Werner Omaha is nothing but a call center and unfortunately the national average for call centers is about a 55-60% turnover rate. This makes it extremely difficult to find and retain competent workers. A good worker with experience can start at a company however, if they are not adequately trained, the job will be miserable and their morale will plummet. Its always a matter of time before they no show/no call. And this makes it difficult to adequately train and staff the phone lines with competent people.

Perfect example... other half was missing a yearly bonus check not long ago. Usually all of them come about four days after his anniversary date... one didn't. Its the one for continued slavery err.. service. So he calls payroll, the first person was clueless as to what he was talking about stating she had worked for Werner for only six months and said she would transfer him. He got disconnected. He called in again to payroll, that person said he would have to talk to HR, again the call was disconnected during transfer. He called in again and talked to HR, they said they had never heard of such a thing. At this point he asked to be transferred to safety since there was a possibility that it was a check related to being accident free. The first person he talked to there said he had NEVER EVER gotten a bonus check for safety........................ yea... okay...

The other half hung up and called safety again, they said that there was no such thing. I finally got on the phone and said look, I've got paystubs for this bonus for over 10 years... I want to talk to your supervisor NOW. She got a bit huffy....... but put me on hold. I handed the phone back tomy other half.

Meanwhile, I called his load planner to see who he should call to find out about this. The LP was clueless...... had no idea what I was talking about. I asked him to ask the account manager, who is a jerk (yes there is a story behind that one), to see if he knew who to call.

So back to my other half and a safety supervisor... he was kinda confused also in the beginning however, he finally realized what my other half was talking about. They changed the name of the bonus.. right now I cant remember what it was called, and they changed the way it is given. Its given now a few days after your anniversary date instead of on your anniversary date.

Needless to say, how many phone calls was that to answer a SIMPLE QUESTION? And to be basically called a liar after working for a company as long as he has by an agent? Pffttt....................

I don't even want to get into the road breakdown wait time/hold time/idiocy about knowledge of equipment on a truck thang.

BTW drivers! If you have an APU, dont forget to pick up your little package of filters for road service! You have to actually sign for them. And also I guess since Werner doesn't have to be approved for paperless logs anymore, its no longer temp its perm, you have to pick up the paperwork for that to carry in your binder from your LP. Just a FYI if you haven't heard!

And... anyone been able to pick up an updated fuel list thats not over six months old anywhere? Or the new 2009 Werner Handbook?
