WOOO now, that post was not directed towards your husband by any means. Sorry if you took it the wrong way. I was just disturbed why Werner allowed that with his tire problem. And trust me I know first hand how drivers get PO'd at GraGar when its usually not even their fault.

I have had many instances were Clint would not allow changes therefore I refuse to work on the truck. The way I do is if a truck comes in with a "safety releated" problem ie. tires, mudflap, bumper etc. I will bring it to the foremans attention if its not wrote up on the RO. It is his ultimate decision to fix or not. If he refuses to fix, I refuse to work on it and will bring another truck in. This has been brought to Omaha's attention also and they seem not to mind.

And just to let you know I am very safety prone when it comes to these trucks. I am not just a Wrench Turner, as I work the safety lane also. I will tag everything safety related. And 95% of the drivers will complain when you write them up for a bad tire. "oh can this slide till next time, im about to go on home time, or im under a load"

And no I dont agree with alot at Werner. As you stated their policy means absolutly nothing. They can say one thing and then turn around and do another.

Again, that was not directed to your husband or yourself. If you want to bash me on this post also go ahead. No feeling hurt here!

    Well.. another "problem"...

The truck is now slipping in 8th and 9th and he says it sounds like the transmission is about ready to fall out of the truck. He called Road Breakdown, they told him to go to a terminal immediately.

However, his dispatcher and Load Planner told him no, to bring the truck back to his home yard then head back out, as he's under a load that is suppose to deliver in AZ on Saturday and hes still expected to deliver it according to dispatch and his LP........

This is why people should be FIRED. Numbers are not important...........

Fact: Werner is one of the 5 worst companies to work for as a driver.

It is common practice to get 6 months experience at a crap company and take your experience to a better company. Start looking for a better job now.

I worked for Werner Enterprises for 3.5 years, they will lie, cheat and steal from drivers while CL Werners kids buy them selfs new BMW's and when you quit they say bring the truck back right now or they will send a tow truck, they give you no time to clean it out, they want it moving but any one who has worked for them know its done that way so they can keep your 400.00 bond!Werner lost about 20 good drivers in the time I was there and they seem to think your home is their truck for its a fight to get home unless you work dedicated and I did,Family Dollar where you open the trailer door run before the falling boxes get you.We Care as long as you make us money should be their slogan!Their logging system was a joke for if it took you 8 minutes to do something they say it took 15 but did find all kinds of ways to beat them at their own game with their electronic logging.Werner has a bunch of bad trainers for I met one who got off Family Dollar so he did not have to take his student over mountains,in Pa. them are 9 percent grades that last a mile or two, good thing Donner is not around here!

Okay, I've read about half of this thread and it seems a whole lot of the same stories from different people.

I'm not a trucker myself, but the wife of one new to the field. He went through a school and out of the several offers he had, Werner is the one he chose because they were to get him set up with orientation faster. No, for him, it wasn't the flashy truck syndrome but the fact that he had been out of jobs 5 times in one year in his previous career.

At 50, in spite of 25 years experience in the field, you don't get jobs when they can hire aliens who work cheaper. During that 25 years experience, he had broken his back and was out of commision for that kind of work for a couple of years. He had to start over rebuilding his career as far as advancement but the experience should have still been worth something, right? When the construction field started dying he decided that trucking might be an option for him. He used to drive tankers in the oil fields back in the 70s.

That's enough of the background material so let's fast forward to now and his reason for going Werner is already stated. First, they give him the trainer from hell. He's been on the truck since May 4th. He was told he needed to drive 300 hours (not 275 as they stated before). This took forever and because of the lousy trainer the whole thing is a mess.

The trainer, I believe, is clinically depressed because he sighs a lot for no apparent reason. His wife calls him every hour to nag at him about not making enough money and also refuses to allow the guy enough money to even do his laundry while on the road, let alone anything else. So, hubby is subjected to this nonstop and the trainer's personal life gets taken out on him as well.

The fellow gets lost all the time and he's supposed to be the experienced one. For an example, one time hubby put the truck within 7 miles of the drop point with many hours to go before they could drop the load and the guy was 45 minutes late because he got lost. The trainer refuses to drive in the dark at all, as well, and doesn't seem to care if he's late or not because of it. Hubby found out that the trainer is on a supervisor's list, too.

Hubby has talked to his SDM but it's not doing a lot of good. She's nice and all but nice doesn't help the situation he's in. He finally got his 300 hours driving in and they tell him he has to stay on that truck for another 125 hours. It took him 9 weeks to get the first 300. So, basically they're forcing him to stay there for another 4 weeks at barely more than unemployment wages.

Given the experience with the trainer, hubby said, just test him out and send him home and he was told they don't do that anymore. Driver placement services (I think that's what it is called), said that he had two choices, go home and hope they call him or stay on the truck and be thankful he has a job.

He was talking with one half of a team who was losing the other half of the team and the guy told him that he'd take him on, told him what to do to arrange it from hubby's end, but when hubby informed placement of that he was chewed out for it. You can't live on $300/week forever but that's what they're doing. He is 10 weeks into this and is no closer to being out of trainee status than he was the day he started.

Hubby has been doing all the night driving and usually shuts down about 4A and he sets his alarm now to get up and make sure the trainer doesn't get lost and doing other things that help avoid a lot of the screw-ups the trainer causes.

During all this, he has not asked for home time and is still not asking for home time. He just wants a job that pays a decent wage to pay our bills. He's not looking to get rich off trucking. With 10 weeks already invested with no end in site, I don't know how to advise him on this. There's no guarantee that if he sticks out another long 125 hours with the crazy trainer that things will be any different at the end than they are now.

So, all you experienced truckers out there: What are his options all things considered?
