I don't offer this to defend Werner, because they aren't really defendable in my opinion. For over five years running, of all the major motor carriers out there, they have amassed the highest accident rate. One out of every seven of their trucks has been involved in a DOT reportable accident. They are an accident magnet.

This is in spite of the fact that they have the utilized the paperless log system, that is supposed to be tamperproof. The only good stat that they hold at the moment, is that their drivers are not often found to be in violation, and thus are put out-of-service.

They hire a great deal of newbies. I don't blame new drivers. I also don't know for sure whether or not this is related to their horrible stats. I suspect that it is, and the reason I think it is related, is probably because they are not staying on top of the training that their newbies receive.

When you contrast Werner to Schneider, who vastly strengthened their training standards, and to JB Hunt, who basically suspended the hiring of newbies with absolutely no experience, both of those companies completely turned around their safety stats practically overnight.

So it's easy to see that the safety department at Werner stays rather busy, and has for quite some time. It's not hard to imagine that their attitude would suck.

Varimon, you are a smart person. The fact that you kept documentation to attest what happened over a period of a few minutes, which clearly shows the breathalyzer had a problem.

Pull your DAC report as soon as possible, and if there is ANY reference to that incident on it, don't walk...RUN to the nearest lawyer, and go after them for everything you can get. You can't lose.

The regretful thing here is that you essentially quit, rather than to have let them fire you. It doesn't change anything, because you still have the proof that the machine malfunctioned. There is no way to explain a difference of that magnitude any other way.

So, the worst thing at this point is that they use this erroneous finding to prevent you from moving on with your life. I hope for your sake they don't, because that's not fun.

If you would have called safety long ago this would have been taken care of. Of course it cost me $400 to get home with no reimbursement. I told my SDM and wrote what was going on and they don't care. Do this stuff on the qualcomm so it is on record. If that was the first they heard of it they probably wouldn't pay anything. I forgot he lowered his window to feel how warm it was so I did too to feel the air. He rolled up my window on my arm and blamed me. When I reorted this I thought they would at least UA him. I told him no way of course. He said but we have to get it to a shop to get the tire fixed. Hello? Heard of Les Shwab? Hello? Ever heard of road break down? Maybe they wanted him to drive on it. Not the first time that has happened (expirienece talking here wanted me to drive 45miles to get a tire fixed with a hazmat load). Your trainer should have grown a set. They actually come to you and fix the tire. He didn't know that? So we were at a truck stop and this other trainer mentioned I should get off his truck. Advise you should have listened to. I didn't exactly know why at the time but I was told about the borrowing money thing which I got back right away. He was going to put me in a motel and go home for Christmas. I went back home with the other guy who told me that the guy was saying as this bs about me. Huh? The truck had to go to the shop in Seattle si I let him stay ay my home do laundry fed him and he talks bad about me. So I'll get back to the last guy another time. My SDM was told about it and they keep records. so everyone go to Werner enjoy but don't expect a job. they have 2,000 students on the road now. Doesn't matter what the economy's like. It's such a joke the there slogan is WE CARE. All these messages come over the QCom about being concern about the ozone layer or it's national earth day but guess what? Not using fuel is what they are concerned about 30 below or 105 above. CL is not much in the picture anymore. If you live in Michigan, Werner will straight up LIE to you. I trained with them in January to April, 300+ hours, was promised solo for .26 CPM, after I tested out in Springfield Oh., they said they had no runs to Michigan, basically I was laid off. They had work for me if I teamed for splitting .28 cpm. They train for cheap labor and cut you loose after you train. I asked them why they hired me in the first place, didn't get an answer. (click)
