Unhappy Nickel Plate Express - Eugene, Or.

Hey there Guys and Gals! NPEpays well for teams, 2001 K2000 well kept by great maintenance department.

BUTTTTTTT, the Operations Mgr and the Safety Director are married to each other and....make one mad, you've got the rest of your employment time enjoying 145 mile round trips for teams, lost driver unload pay denied by the Dir.of Ops, required to pull overweight loads and then pay your own tickets, 14 hr layovers in LA, well, you get the picture.

Anyhow, the recruiters are really nice, but once you're on board, the dispatchers are assigned to an area, not to the trucks, you do not have a single contact or fleet manager, and chances are very good your cellphone will have at least 1500 mins. per month on it from being on hold. The Dir of Ops changes the voicemail system on a daily basis, and NO you can't leave messages for anyone so that there is no paper trail if they steer you wrong.

No qualcomm, which at first seemed like a good idea, but the Dir of Ops has given the dispatchers orders not to give drivers directions to the stops. Once you are preplanned the next truck can take the load away from you with no notice.

So, if you are in Central Oregon and need a driving job, NPE is there, but watch out for the nepotism. By the way, all experienced dispatchers save one have quit in the 3 months we have been there. You wait 4 mos. for insurance. There is no support available on weekend nights for emergencies - the young dispatchers turn the cellphone off and go shopping with their girlfriends. Meanwhile you are hung out to dry in downtown LA.

    Good luck!

Don't they have 1-800 phone numbers?

Why would the dispatchers be under orders not to give drivers directions? I wouldn't trust directions from anyone except Rand McNally anyhow.

That makes sense. 90 business days, as opposed to 90 calendar days. I don't necessarily agree with that, but that's what that probably is.
