can anyone here tell me how many dispatchers are former drivers.......??

probably only an incredibly few are former drivers. that being said, most dispatchers are either high school drop outs that went through some sort of state funded training, or some dispatchers may have a high school diploma. i really do know of a college grad who is a dispatcher. all in all, if a dispatcher is a "non-driver, non-educated" individual, they have no concept of safety, logs, hazmat placarding, etc. dispatchers have bosses over them who order them around.

now, what you would really have to do is contact safety ASAP anytime something doesn't "jive" (or look/sound right) to you or the law. to drive away without placards is your problem, not the dispatchers, as you are "the captain of your ship", and take full responsibility when you leave the customers yard.

believe it or not, there are some great dispatchers out there, i know, i've had many, but the bad ones need to be reprimanded ASAP as well by safety and higher management. a dispatchers threats do not scare me, as a driver i am more valuable than a stinkin' low life, uneducated, ignorant dispatcher. i can always get another high paying drivers job. the only job a stupid dispatcher will get is maybe a job dispatching taxis going to and from the airport.

in closing, always report to the safety dept ASAP, let them handle the situation. better still, cary a mini tape recorder with you, tape the conversations, use that against them. worked for me.

Swift is a crappy company!!

I was a Swift O/O and can validate EVERY bad thing said about them. They try to 'manhandle' drivers and treat them ALL as newbies!! If they hadn't increased pay and up'ed their truck governed speeds, they WOULD be out of business!!!

Is that the word on the streets?

About five years ago I was sent in to pick up a new trailer in Lafeyett In, There had been several large storage lots of Swift trailers and from what I was told Wabash would not release the trailers to Swift. Could be that they were not paid for.

I passed 2 trucks on the PA turnpike this morning that were swiftly gaining on a Swift truck. The one in the lead said, "Watch out for that piece of scrap metal in the right lane." Had to laugh.
