Swift Transportation Company, Inc. - Phoenix, Az.

I like Swift! The insurance is pretty good and inexpensive, especially for families, there is an opportunity for miles, opportunity for advancement, and dispatch is pretty lenient. Shop has a fast turnaround. What they advertise is pretty much what you get, no sugar coating or gimmicks.

yes, opportunity to become a driver-trainer when the "student" or "newbie" has less than 4 months of actual driving experience........?? yep, job advancement, the blind leading the blind..............

opportunity for miles...? a current swift driver who makes a pick up at my warehouse told me he's still getting 26¢ per mile, and that's for his first 6 months..? yep, high dollars earnings there..............

dispatch pretty lenient...?? yep, refuse a load/dispatch, you get crap miles or a load/unload dispatch..........

what they advertise is NEVER what you'll get.................newbies.............gotta love the naive thinking..........

1 yr experience is necessary for becoming a trainer-no ifs, ands, or butts.
Miles? if your friend is making .26 per mile I question his driving and/or his dm
crap loads aren't a problem...Yes, I take the loads other drivers don't feel is good enough. i'll run 2-3 loads at 200-300 miles a piece(make it one day and get loaded and unloaded a leeuva lot faster then my otr runs) I GET ADDITIONAL PAY!!! East coast is fine for me, no Rockies and the Appalachians are hills compared to those. You can say newbie all you want. It's a smorgasborgh of loads out there and different ways to get the miles so why I should I be so picky. I still get paid and from what your friends says-better than him! Hell if I'm doing drop/hook, its the least amount of labor of any driving job-I just sit on my a** and drive, why complain?

I like how the guys who complain about swift, for one, haven't been there in years or they go from company to company(things that make you go hum?(cowboys?)).

first of all, get your facts straight. that Swift driver is no friend of mine, i said "a Swift driver who makes a pick-up at my warehouse..........."

next, he's only getting paid what he is getting paid, and for his first 6 months.

next, it IS TRUE, that Swift will ask/offer a driver's trainer job to "newbies" who sign on and drive for them in as little as 3-4 months of employment......

maybe its YOU that they never made that offer to you because its YOU who i should question your driving abilities...........??

good luck newbie...........keep those extra log books handy.........!!!!

also i got a question or two for you. in several other posts you claim your "hubby" is a driver, and you need monetary help, but yet here, you claim to be the driver.

so which is it, are you the driver (the hubby) or the wifey....???

your whole history/stories now come into question as to the validity to anything you say from this point on..........

here's the one i'm refering to........[LINK POSTED BY MEMBER] Only Members Can View This Truck Forum Link.

That is absolute bunk. Swift routinely pairs inexperienced drivers, those with six months or less, with newer newbies than the newbie that they are themselves, in the capacity as a trainer, and there isn't one driver with a little time under their belt, that doesn't know this to be true.

I've never worked for the company, and wouldn't grace the door for one second, but that doesn't mean I don't know a thing or two about the company.

You'll have to forgive me, but I moved your post to the appropriate section of the site, and in the future, if you want to push Swift as being a good company, maybe you ought to sit behind the wheel of the truck as a driver, and shove out from behind the desk at Washtenaw Community College to know what you are talking about.

Don't try to kid a kidder....

Egg on one's face?

I really appreciate folks like TT at this website. If HE is "running the show", I know this site isn't just another that pays lip service to the term "pro driver".
It's not just another site that pretends to be the driver's buddy while itself is secretly in the pockets of the machine.

I have a rule I'm hammering out, and will soon adapt:

If the company is traded on NASDAQ, I want no part of it. A trucking company's stockholders will make a rank and file driver's life miserable. A LOT of the problems at places like Swift, JBH, and on and on and on are problems because the stockholders want their rewards no matter what it costs.

yep, the almighty dollar always speaks "volumes", no matter what the final outcome.........

PS to TurboTrucker, portlandriver, cybergal, wise one. can someone, somehow fix the "size" html coding (if that's what its called). i tried <size=10> to start, then </size> to end (using < & > for [ & ] (by the way), but the words are way too huge, even when i "downsize" the words to say, 8 size.

All anyone has to do is look them up on Safersys.org to see whether or not they do this. The big outfits with sky-high numbers will be the ones that have inexperienced "trainers".

I know Swift has a really bad rep. But are their drivers really just bad drivers? Is it just a stereotype? I've only seen one swift driver do somethin' dumb, but I've seen other drivers from companies who shall remain nameless, taking 30 minutes to unsuccessfully park in a double wide spot at the flying j. And after this driver was unable to get into the double wide, traffic was all backed up so he then tried to get into a single spot. That's like asking to borrow a dollar, getting turned down, and asking for fifty-grand instead. I am not convinced yet about swift, CONVINCE ME.

I bet they might actually have a few good ones
and a few bad ones, problem is that they've got such a high turnover rate AND they accept and train totally new drivers without making them purchase a rig...i'd bet the overall experence rate of SWIFT drivers (in Mileage) is low compared to a lot of other companies who snag (with better pay/treatment etc.) swifts better and safer drivers after they've proven themselves.
