My question is: Where is a new driver to go? The only companies that will hire a guy out of school are the Swifts and Werners.

The good companies require two years experience. The big companies get to treat their drivers like crap because the new drivers have to put up with it for a year or two.

It's easy for the experienced guys to turn their noses up--they have choices, the new guys don't.

lessons learned

I come to this website and i am a new member here and in a short time i have learned alot. I have worked for good companies in past(outside trucking) and I have worked for some bad companies. When i decided to go to school and get my class a cdl license which hopefully i will pass my test at the end of febuary I knew I had to do my best to join a trucking company that is the best fit for me and also where they are as honest as possible. I am sorry to see that so many people got burned badly by so many different companies. I hope you all have found a great company to work for. I was considering swift, werner, covanent,us express and i am glad Checked out this website. after all i heard they are not in my plans anymore. I have decided to go with roehl . I am open to any advice concerning roehl. or anything else. I have learned in life to not make mistakes we made get me down. Just learn from them. I hope I pass my test. I feel so excited about starting my new career hope to meet you all out there on the road

response to druid Druid

Druid, back in early '06 when I went through school with Swift the guy doing the class himself stated that less than 50% of us would still be with Swift after 6 months and that after one year the rate would be about 10%. I knew of very few happy drivers at Swift and most were biding their time to get experience so they could leave.

Got news for you, I ran flatbed for Swift, and Swift policy on the securement of coils is stricter than most other companies

I have to agree with Nikondvr's instructor. The only reason I'm looking at swift, is because the person I'm teaming with is getting sponsored through them. He doesn't want to have to pay $4200.00 out of his own pocket for a CDL. After his contract is complete, we're definitely moving on.
As DeepC asked in a previous post.Where is a new driver to go?

Interesting observation. I have read a lot of post here, and in other forums about Swift. I've even visited Ripoff.com to read what they have there about Swift.
Inall places that I have read about Swift, a vast majority of the disgruntled people from Swift seem to be from East of the Mississippi.
I'm not saying there aren't any complaints from other locations. There just seems to be more from East of the the Mississippi.
