Apache can't do you much good now anyway. He's been banned, although for what I forget.

I was going to leave tomorrow on Tuesday August 28th, 2007 for Swift transportations schooling they call the academy; but small clues were eating away on me about the practices going on with several recruiters I dealt with at Swift that didn't add up.

This is going to be a long letter stating the things that I went through trying to get into a new career and chose Swift because my brother said he heard good things about them through some truckers he knows. My brother is a Trucker; but not with Swift. He works for Graham Trucking based out of Seattle, WA.

I have been dealing on and off with Swift for about a couple of months and my first recruiter said I was good to go with the schooling; but I told her that I had to wait until I got up some money for the sitting fee, my food and other unknown expenses that can occur. Basically said is, I pre plan ahead for the unknown so I don't get myself caught in a bad situation that I can't financially get myself out of if something goes wrong.

During this time I misplaced "Lost" her phone number and decided to call up another recruiter so I could proceed with going to school with Swift. The next recruiter and I had a discussion about what was required of me by Swift to go to school and I told him I was ready to go from what the last recruiter told me. He asked me my full name and social security number and asked me to hold, so I did.

When he came back to the phone, he told me in these exact words, which recruiter were you dealing with and her name? I told him I wish I could recall; but I lost that information I wrote down, and then he said, your not ready at all and that dumb ##### is a moron for telling you that. He said I still needed the background check done and the driving abstract form filled out again, plus I also needed two notarized documents why I have been unemployed for more then six months and also a notarized statement of a business I ran from my house for some years because I didn't have a business tax number available for him.

After he said that to me, I got alarmed and said the "HELL" with this to myself, because the second recruiter said opposite of what the first recruiter told me, that I was ready to go to school and call her when I had the money to do so. Then I started looking for work in my main profession again; but still had that burning desire to change my profession and go long haul trucking and after some time and my brother convincing me that it's all about attitude and not to listen to the people that speak negative about Swift because he heard nothing but good about them, it would be a fun job and rewarding for me so go ahead and call a different recruiter to see what he or she had to say about these requirements Swift needs to get into school.

So I called up a third recruiter and he said that I didn't even need to bring any documents at all to school about to prove why I was unemployed for six months and then I asked him if he would send me an email stating that and he then said, I guess you better get them documents signed just in case so you feel secure about all this. So I did what he said and he said I was ready to go to school and set a date for Tuesday August 28th, 2007 leaving Seattle, WA to Lewiston, ID from the Greyhound terminal.

The checklist that Swift gives you online and by phone of the requirments needed to go to school says opposite of what the first and second recruiters told me.

I could not sleep well for some odd reason last night and woke up at 3:30AM PST this morning and was doing some reading in this forum and a link that lead me to another website that also added hundreds of complaints about Swift. Then my blood ran cold and I got really scared about this decision to go to the Swift Academy.

When my brother walked in the house this morning, I let him know about this and on top of that my brother said you need to get your CDL permit to drive the trucks and I sent off another email this morning asking the recruiter if I needed a CDL permit like my brother told me I needed to do before I go off to school for Swifts Academy Training Program. I also asked the recruiter if the school doesn't train me to drive truck and learn how to back it up while I am there or if that comes later on when I am sent off to the 6 weeks of driving with the Mentor, (Over The Road Trainer) and a couple other questions.

The only response I got from him was to these exact words. ( You don't need a CDL permit) and that was all he said in the replied email. He would not answers my other detailed questions, so I said that's it, "No More". I am through with the deception I have got ever since I started dealing with these recruiters at Swift saying one thing and then other.

That is really scary because you don't know what kind of problems you will have when you get there because there are one to many contradictions going on with these recruiters. I got more scared then I have ever been in my life because my butt could go in debt for their schooling to end up later getting lied to more and more from this company and I for sure won't allow these people to be a part of making my life a living "HELL" because they didn't tell me the facts and then later guess who pays for it? I do, that's right, I pay for it by time, money and stress dealing with liars to get to the truth of it all.

That is not going to happen to me and I sure wish other wanna be truckers would test these people out to make sure they aren't getting in over their heads. I really hate what American businesses have come to today just to make money. They don't care what happens to you at all. You know that this type of crap one day is going to destroy America just as the roman empire fell unless the rich stop this greed, lies and games to gain from us people that just want to make a good living and enjoy what we are doing.

I could say more that was told to me and some rudeness I dealt with also; but it's not worth it. I will leave all I said with one last comment and that is, the people making all these negative statements by the hundreds for sure are telling the truth because I have dealt with just a smaller amount of Swifts B.S and thankful I decided to not go to them for school and work for them afterwards. WHAT A FREAKING NIGHTMARE SWIFT IS.
I am sure you have dealt with a few there at Swift that have given you enough reason to not want to work for them. I, however, can tell you that I so far have had a wonderful experience with Swift.

If you have any questions, let me know. It may take me a while to back to you being that I am heading back to Phoenix for orientation and won't have access to the internet everyday like I do here at home, but leave me a note here and I'll be sure to get back to you.

It's too bad you're not getting in...in a way

Man, if every driver thought the way you think, the trucking industry would be a great deal better.

You're using your head and thinking critically, and you're listening to your gut.

Be advised that there ARE good trucking companies out there, although they are few and far between.

As far as drivers go, I'd have to say there are many losers in trucking, but you'll see many good guys, too. Some guys drive trucks because they MUST. They weren't wearing rubbers when they grunted, or they got busted with that dope they just couldn't stay away from. These guys have screwed up their lives and have no other choice. It's trucking or starve.

However, most guys in trucking are in it because they want to be in it. To me, these guys aren't losers. And some of these good ol' boys are at Swift.

Yeah I drive a Swift truck
And that means one thing
It means she's slow
It's a typical company truck
It's just all show and no go

I'm gettin' passed by Yella
And even Overnite
I'm gettin' passed by ever' body in sight
46 days on the road
And I'm not gettin' home tonight

No, my hometown's nowhere in sight
And if you think I'm pissed off
You're right
46 days on the road
And I'm not gettin' home tonight

Love pissing off those trucking company insiders.

Thumbs down

I just started for swift, still in training as a matter of fact, and have been considering going to another company since the academy and there ######## recruiting tactics.

as for the new happening with swift since jerry has come back, 28% less idle time (or vacate your truck) msg sent to me and my 'mentor' not more then 2 weeks ago. I have also heard that they have removed the jobs of everyone that worked in the Loredo, tx terminal and replaced the whole staff with fresh out-a-college kids.

back to my great experience with swift...

my recruiter 'Crege Carter' made swift sound like a god send to someone that went from an $8/hr welding job in MI, to unemployed. first he said you get paid for training, and will be fed. pay would be $150/week with $50/week in food vouchers for the local Kroger's. He also said that we would get 2 day's a week off, with 8hr day's in the classrooms, and range. so far not a single word of what I was told by this man is true, we got paid nothing, and the day's in the classes would be 12hr's or more each day. with instructors that did not have the ability to control there class. After the classes we went to orientation... 3 day's long while they put us in a nice hotel... for once, something looking good. The Holiday Inn selects was like an english suite compaired to that Admirality inn in Millington, TN. our last day of class everyone was told they would get paid $150 for the 3 day's of orientation. once everyone was in orientation, we found out on the 3rd day of orientation that "why would we pay you for orientation, you make money with miles, and you aint getting no miles right here, right now." -Swift Mempis Terminal Safety Advisor.

after a week of waiting to get into an truck after orientation, I finally get a mentor, and the last 4 weeks, we have been put on extremly crap loads... 400miles with 3 day's before we can deliver. this would be load after load. Through those weeks, I have paid much of my money on toll's, hotel's, wiegh tickets, etc... all of which I was told I would get reimbursed. I still have yet to see any of this money back on my account.

I do not put this on to brag about my misfortunes with swift, but I hope that someone considering to join swift's team see's what they will need to expect upon getting into swift.

needless to say, I will not be working for swift past september.

double post!!!

as it turns out, today I got 3 loads back to back for the same company, Proctor and gamble. the first two are fairly easy and smaller loads, eventually putting me in PA, where I was to pick up the 3rd load, we get it down the road about 200 miles and call it a night, only to get a msg on the qualcom saying to keep the truck moving. my mentors HoS is up, and im to tired to keep going to far after the day we had. As it turns out, Proctor and Gamble are on the verge of cancelling swift as one of there carriers, then I was informed that Wal-mart is about to stop using swift as well, HP, etc... three of swifts biggest contracts.

I figured it was time for me to post my experience. I did the orientation and 6 weeks with a mentor. Orientation was fine, just like they said it would be. I got paid what i was supposed to and got trained what i was supposed to. I got my CDL on the first try so they did something right. When i got with my mentor, i learned real fast what swift was like. My mentor was awsome, he taught me the in's and out's of swift. He never fudged my books, never made me do anything i couldnt handle, but he would push me to see how far i could go. my 2nd day on the road i drove monarch pass. He taught me what type of loads to turn down, what trailers to pick up. He taught me how to use loads to get to places i wanted to go. Taught me the tricks to the qualcomm. But with all that i decided to quit cause i wasnt confident that swift gave 1 ioda about my family. I was not going to miss the birth of my child.
I realize that i had a top notch mentor. He said i was a top notch student. Thats prolly a good combination. But even so, its been said before, swift is what you make of it.

The sad thing is too many people come into the trucking industry,Wanting to drive Over The Road, Long haul and don't want to be away from their family.Maybe you should have thought about it better. Now you've quit Swift, just out of training. You will still owe Swift $$$ for the training,Money I'm sure you could use elsewhere.A Class A CDL is no good if you don't use it!!! The birth of a baby is VERY SPECIAL, But you'll need lots of $$$ to feed and raise him.
Best of luck!
