As you get to know our Company, we think you'll soon see what truly sets us apart from other transportation providers: Our People.
This is what you say at your site. This is what we were told when my husband came to work for you. When told of even more opportunities as an owner/operator, we jumped on it. We saw an opportunity to better our lives and our children’s lives. We saw an opportunity to really own something and do more with the benefits which would come out of this.

In the first three months of being an owner operator, my husband came home with almost $3000 per month. This was more money than we had made in some time. Bills were being paid off, our children got newer clothes, and we were able to actually begin putting money aside. How pleased we were and how wonderful it felt to finally feel the burden of debt and uncertainty lift from our shoulders.

We were well prepared for the unexpected such as low miles and repair bills. It happens. It’s the nature of the industry. My husband has been a truck driver for many years now and we expected it.

So, I want to say Thank You to Landiar. Thank You because since then we have come full circle. All the money is now gone. The bills have quadrupled and most sit on my desk unpaid. The rent is well past due with no hope of ever paying it. Thank You Landair, because we will have to go rely on the kindness of a woman in order to move back into her trailer park without any money. If that’s not possible, we will apply for public housing…something we’ve never had to do in our lives. Thank You Landair.

Thank You Landair for sparing us the shame of applying for welfare. Since they rely on the gross amount to determine who is worthy of receiving assistance we will be spared from becoming a burden to society.

As a result of the low miles and the addition of repairs in conjunction with that, the paychecks have lessened and grown smaller. We’ve learned the value of searching for change in order to put gas in the car so I can take my children to school. We’ve also learned to not be surprised when out of three weeks, we get one paycheck. We’ve learned to not be too hopeful for a check over $500 out of a month with the rest barely above $200.

The lessons are not over, Landair, for now we will discover what Christmas is truly about for there will be none for this family. We will strive to appreciate the good health we have for there will be nothing else to which to be thankful for. No visit from Santa and no stocking will be filled. None will be hung nor will there be a tree to decorate. Thank You Landair for showing us that to do without no matter the time of year is a lesson we all must learn.

May you have a Merry Christmas and may you truly appreciate what you and your family has...as we are.

Am I missing something here? I think I am. Of course paychecks go down when the truck is in the repair shop. Also your net profit and discretionary income go down. And yes, some weeks the miles are low and some weeks they're high. Help me see what I am missing.

On the side, maybe they need to try their sister company Forward Air. They are O/O only; solo and team. Land Air is Company Driver and O/O's.

Myself I wouldn't go to Land Air cause they only have mid-roof and flat-top Columbia's and 9400's. Too small for me; not enough headroom in sleeper area. Plus they don't go west.

Times can be tough with alot of companies, I urge anyone concidering.leaseing a truck from a company, to not do it, It is a win win
for them, lose lose for you. theese company's lewuer unsaspecting driver in, with the promise of Freadom, while it's coasting you and your faimly everything.. You will never get rich, or even enjoy a decent liveing.......
If you want to be an owner operater, GREAT BUt buy the truck, or lease
it on your own. Companies want you to lease it from them because, it
stays in there name,there for they can charge anythig yhey want, for whatever reason they want...... It is the biggest, and most sickning thing going on in trucking today.. They will promise you the world, and finachel freedom, IT IS BULL *****. you will go broke, and they get there truck back, making it a win win for them, they can just find another driver to put in it and pay them less than you! PLEASE JUST DO NOT DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!! And to the lady who wrote this, Your huspand will be just fine, First thing you need to do is find out if landair owns the note, or if it's a bank? If it is a bank, take your truck to a different company, If landair owns it, see if your bank Will buy the note. Doing this you might have to pay more or less, you will just have to ask.

We totally understood what we were getting into when my husband became an owner/operator. It wasn't something we entered into lightly. He's been with Landair for almost two years and for almost a year has been an o/o.

We knew the expense and how to deal with repairs. We had a maintenance escrow set up so as to be able to handle repairs as they came up.

What's happened over the last several months is the miles continued to worsen and add the normal expected repairs to that has broken us completely. My husband was promised by more than one person they would strive to get him the needed miles. It lasted about a week and then we were right back where we started from.

We continued to give them the benefit of the doubt. Keep in mind, that other drivers running the same corridor were getting 2500 to 3000 p/week at the same time. It's very difficult to not take this personally.

Last night my husband had a 650 mile run. This morning they took that away and gave him a 250 mile one going from Allentown, PA to NJ (the specific place escapes me right now). This morning he tried to find out why they did this and got the run-around. Finally, he said (with colorful language included)to get him home. He was done.

We were stupid enough to believe what they said. When he was a company driver he was treated very well and the miles were good. The first three months as an owner operator, the miles were great and slowly over a period of time it continued to worsen until we have no way of paying our bills, paying the rent or putting food on the table let alone having a christmas. The money I get for babysitting can't touch what we need in order to survive.

So, if you believe we are to blame for our circumstances you may well be right. We were naive and we believed what they told us.

No, mame, i was not trying to imply it was your fault, i was trying to warn
the people, who come here for advice, Especially those new to truck driving. I am sure you did your research, and were trying to make a beter life for your faimly. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE MY WARNING TO OTHERS, as an atempt to plame you, I KNOW IT WAS NOT YOUR FAULT. good luck!!
My father has owned a trucking company since before i was born,
I am well edducated, at the lows other companies will go,to promise people the world.... again good luck, to you and your famely..
The main reason I can think of them taking that load away , is to give it to one of there company drivers. IT"S JUST NOT RIGHT.....

We're trying to get in touch with a few old friends who might be able to help get my husband quickly in with another company when he comes home.

There are, a lot of good o/o companies out there, my father has, some trucks leased onto goto transport(formalely express leasing) out of bay city michigan( they haul a lot of schenider's freight, but do not pull there traillers, i don't think.) and also A.D. transport, out of canton. He has 20% of his fleet leased on with thees two compaines, the rest of the fleet
are on his board. my point is he would not have that many trucks leased on to an outside company unless they treated him right. good luck

Landair owner's wife tells my husband: If you quit we will sue you for what's owed on the truck after they pawn it off on another unsuspecting company driver. It's your own fault you are in this situation.

I've got two words for her: I'm sure you have a good idea what they are.

God, I feel bad for you, i wish i knew what you should do........
I will talk to my dad in the morning, he might be able to shed some light
on the situation....... I do not know if you are religius, but your family will be in my prayer's............ try not to take what she said to heart... these
companies don't have hearts, all they know is money, they will get there's in the end..........trust
