the most pitiful co. i have ever driven for.i gave them 2yrs to get it together but they never did.biggest prob. was idle time why save the rigs with ap units for the new drivers they arnt going to stay anyway why not give them to a driver that has been there awhile? got fired because there insurance co. settled in an accident they even said wasnt my fault, and for high idle that i got down to less than 8% for the last 3months, they dont want to keep drivers for to long before they start looking for things to get rid of them for.they seem to like the turnover rate lower pay saves them money.

Wideglide, we get it. Sounds largely like sour grapes. Probably would advise newbies to get another opinion. Disgruntled guys like you show up everywhere and make some of us wonder what the other side of the story is.......

Well what can I say? I am certainly not new to the trucking industry or how things work. Like all companies; I hear good things and bad things about them. As for PTL, well; I am getting scheduled to attend their orientation for the 2nd of February, 2009; and I will write on this board and let ya'll know how it is going. I did wish to comment about some of what I have seen written however. This industry is about trucking, (if you are a local or regional driver this doesn't apply to you!) but if you are a so called over the road driver; then be prepared to stay out on the road for a while. It really aggravates me sometimes when I hear these so called OTR drivers constantly whining about home time. In this industry it is about making money. In order to make money, you have to get miles. If you want to get the miles, then you need to be prepared to be out on the road. (that means not getting home every weekend or every other week) You will have to learn to accept the fact that freight runs in cycles like everything else. Sometimes you will be sitting around bored to death, and other times you will be running your ### off trying to find the time to take a break just so you can do a load of laundry. That is just the way it is. If you want to make it; then your best bet is to stay out for three, four, or more weeks at a time; and then take off for a week straight. You will also have to take the good with the bad. Take the crappy short runs, the runs into places like the northeast (that everyone trys to avoid) and never, I repeat, never turn down a load. If you can do this; then your driver managers and your companies will quickly learn that you are a real truck driver and that they can depend on you; and in turn you will be able to depend on them: You will soon find that you have developed a repore with your company and then, and only then will you be able to expect those little favors which we all enjoy. (ie. getting into the newer truck, getting the good runs with the good miles, being able to take the couple of extra days off when you need them even if you hadn't earned them, etc.) So for those of you; (and you know who you are) quit your whining, start giving a 110%, put in the extra effort and start doing your job the way it has to be done, and you will find that any company you work for; the rewards of doing a job exceptionally well will be beneficial to you!

You are very welcome Ship. Like I had said; I don't know much about PTL but I am going to give them a shot. I guess I am just one of those old school S.O.B.'s who learns things the hard way. I figure the only way to find out about a company is to sign on and see how things go. I have worked for some good companies and some not so good. The last company I drove for was Sitton Motor Lines; and for all I can say : they were the best. Unfortunately, I had to take some personal time off last year to take care of some family matters; and when I was ready to head back out on the road, I had discovered (much to my dismay) that Sitton had done some restructuring (due to our great economy) and changed their hiring area...so I could not return at this time. (as for those unhappy drivers out their reading this) If you are in Sitton Motor Lines hiring area; I highly reccommend that you check them out. (they are not the top paying company in the industry, but they #### sure treat you well!) Good Luck to all of you out there, and keep the wheels turning!
