Do they still train students by pairing up a couple in orientation and tossing them the keys?

Hello my friends, I drove for PTL (Partially Trained Liability) for 2 months as a company driver, the most shocking thing to me was the policy of putting untrained CDL holders, fresh out of school into a truck and turning them loose on the road.

Secondly, the nasty hotel they put you up in is moldy, everyone in my LARGE orientation class was sick, I personally operated running a 102 fever for two weeks, as they did not care if I was sick, the class room was sooo cold i had to wear a jacket in the summer.

the miles at that time were terrible, they hold you to the exact route you are given, even if you have a GPS and find a shorter route they use that against you and you are out of route. INSANE!!!!!!!

I drove for PTL for seven weeks 2 years ago and it was a BIG mistake! They didn't do a new Medical Exam they had me keep my current medical card and they had me drive over the Hours of Service several times. I was also told by the recruiter that I would be only out for 2 weeks and be home for two days, after 5 weeks on the road I was getting a load to my hometown and I called my fleet manager and he said "No this is just a load going there you are not due for hometime yet." After 5 weeks not due yet?!!!!! Also when you are ready to leave them you have to take their truck back to their HQ in Kentucky, not whichever yard you pick up the truck. PTL says if you don't take the truck to their HQ it is considered truck abandonment!! Luckily though they are nice enough to give you a bus ticket home.

That came from a Swift Driver? There were 108 people in my orientation at Swift. One of which is left. Better yet, after 2 years of service with Swift, with company driver codes running in numerical order, mine from Dec. 06 to a co-worker hired exactly two years later: My d/c started with 245xxx... new driver two years later, 285xxx... 40,000 drivers in two years! Ok, lets do the math...... with 15000 drivers now, I'd say that's a turnover of about 150%. Used to be 19000 but Swift has gotten rid of quite a few drivers. I guess now if you have an accident, they actually fire you! go figure :)

I will say this about ptl, they don't care about there drivers at all, I was once a student driver there and I also have a disablity (one arm) my disptacher treated me personly like #### and was very rude to me.

also the guy in oreantation could not awnser any question pepole had and did a really crappy job of teaching the class. after that the runs were ok and gave us some good miles. I also had 2 codrivers in the training peroid and then one in out in waynesville, NC I was struck by another truck.

after that we upgraded to 1st seat out on the in ohio I put in for home time and they had my home time as murry,ky. later that week they routed me to murry,ky and safety told me to quit or they were going to fire me and make it to were I could never drive a truck again. if I did not quit.

I think they let me go because my dispatcher could not stand the fact that I was always early or ontime with my loads and that I could do the same work with one hand, and the truck that hit me in the truck stop in nc. with that said I would never go back and work for that bunch of lires and thefts I had ever seen.:biggrin_25510:

PTL is a horrible place to be. I leased my truck on there and toughed it out for 60 days. when nobody is putting is adding 60 per week, with only 200 total owner/ops there. Think there is a problem. Every trailer they own are junk, but under lease agreement you are held liable for $25,000 for the trailer you are hooked too, plus you are forced to instal a rack to haul a recap tire for their trailers. you will not be dispatched until company trucks are dispatched, this means some times you sit for days. PTL also keeps the fuel discounts given and does not pass them on, plus all the other charges they hit you with. avoid these guys

Husband worked for them. 1) forget home time,he had court date they knew about for a month, yes he missed it 2) even when got home late on home time, they threatened to take truck when he said he would not leave out early for a load. 3) Past 3 checks were under $200. 4) they give u 4 days for a 600 mile run 5) They will not let you idle over 40% Guy was just fired this week for doing so-with no warning 6) Will not let u have generator to compensate for no idle (which means in 95+ degree weather , SUFFER. Do not want u to call them, just use qual comm, u have issue, again SUFFER

Heed the advice of others and steer clear of PTL... A Recruiter's position is to purposely fill seats or he/she will be replaced. In effect they aren't going to tell you the truth and that is a fact you can bank on. They won't speak of how the company let a driver roast in the hot summer sun for a week after passing away. They won't talk about how Paschall Services funnels loads away from the drivers of Paschall Truck Lines, etc.

I would say more but I really can't, for the shadyness runs much deeper at PTL than any of you can imagine... You just have to believe when I say if you value your life and profession, then find another company to sign on with. The Kingdom of Waller is no company you should ever work for.

PTL could be a good company if they paid you $ 15.00 an hr. The trucks suck,I had the best running one a beat up Intl. that belonged to the lady in driver services whos boyfriend is head mech. their..But trucks are to slow you will average 59 mph even with a lite load or empty.. Cruise contrl. set up to pick up speed once your below 60 mph....Stay away new comers, you can make a killing driving a dump truck for a local const. co. in your city..Thats what im doing now..Off weekends and holidays and bringing home $877.00 a week after taxes, and I dont leave any money on the road like all I spent at truck stops when running OTR... Ive left PTL in March and I have not been broke since then,My bank acct. just keeps building..So get a little dirty and make sum good $$$ and be home every nite..You wont with PTL
