Why do people still drive for these big companies? Don't they do some kind of research before going to them. If its so bad why drive at all. If they don't pay much, and you not getting enough miles, then leave. People complain and yet they still drive there. The only thing that you doing is killing trucking business. Its like hiring illegals to work for almost no money, and that's why its so bad, because we got people that work almost for free. I hear from some truckers that they make less then $700 a week!!!! Leave the company, there are plenty of other non trucking jobs that pay this much and you can stay home everyday.

Trucking job isn't easy and lots of times you are not home, and that's why it should be well compensated. The drivers that drive for so little should be ashamed of themselves, not only that they don't get paid much they also kill everyone else. We should dictate to companies how much we want and refuse cheap and unfair loads not other way around. I've been O/O for long time and i still to this day refuse to take cheap loads especially those that come from East to west. I always go empty, and if everyone would do the same we would get trucking business back on its feet.

You've been o/o long time huh?? Your profile shows you've been driving for 3 yrs, I don't think that's a long time at all.

Because I ENJOY the job. For me, it's not all about the money, although it's nice to have. I'm a free-spirit by nature and love waking up in a different place every day and being on the move all the time. Personal satisfaction is my reason for doing this job.

There are alot of non mega carriers that still respect drivers and show it with pay and fair treatment.

I agree. There are alot of people who work for free or very shameful wages. I could write 2 pages but I'll just let everyone read some of the threads.

Edit: I can't remember the company but they make the driver take a 16cpm per diem... then charge them 0.03 cpm to be on it. I couldn't look anyone in the eyes if I offered that.

Thank you, yes there are you have to look for them.
Maybe it wasn't about the money and more about satisfaction like being in different places only because drivers were getting paid fair. Now its different

People can say what they want to justify being mistreated and under payed.

I like the freedom. I like seeing the country, blah blah blah.

99% of people work for the money.

Thank god for csa2010. Hopefully it can bring some sanity back to the industry. Get rid of some of the rift raft and put a premium on quality professional drivers.

A good smart driver with experience shouldn't be working for less than $50000 a year. It's not that hard to find those jobs. Just stay away from the ####bag carriers.

Well, to be fair about it, many newbies don't have too many options. They almost have to go with one of the mega carriers to get enough experience to move on to something better. Add that condition to the fact that they have no true perspective on what trucking involves, how long they will really be away from the house, and how the miles are so sparatic and they won't really see the take home that some recruiter or driving school told them.

And there are some experienced drivers that manage to get a good gig with a large carrier, but I will concede that it isn't as often as it should be.

we all gotta start at the bottom somewhere. so far in just my first day and a half with my trainer I have driven over 800mi not counting his miles. Gotta get the experience before any of the good local companies in my area will hire me. I'm with pam btw.
