I know quite a few drivers who have gone longer than 3yrs with no accidents or incidents. So yes it can be done, you have to be focused, pay attention, be courteous, be aware of your surrondings at all times, and just use common sense out here on the road and you will do good.

Listen, right now I'm not overly worried about the amount of WORK involved, I'm still relatively young, healthy, and strong. What I REALLY need is the ability to gross 1k a week, on balance, for the year (30k to live, and $20k buffer towards O/O so I don't get stuck as co driver forever).

It seems that flatbed is where both the work and the compensation seems to be which leaves me with Mav, TMC, McElroy, maybe a couple others. Of those, Mav seems to have the most generous package IF you look at the TMC percentage plan as kind of squirrely with a lot of If's built in. On top of that, I'm not really a "truck enthusiast" so much that I would pick a co based on that... I've never even owned a pickup truck.

So, if I could get 3500 (billable) miles a week at $.30/mile no-touch then that would be an option for me, but at 2,000 to 2,500 miles being the norm, I'm going to need that $.41-.46 to make it work out.

Their usage of DAC reports is admittedly terrifying though. I haven't even learned to 45 or 90 back yet and I can't imagine NEVER scraping anything!
You as a student driver are not gonna gross $1000 a week at Mav or anywhere for at least the first year. You are not gonna get 3500 billable miles a week either, usually 2500 is the norm. You cannot run 3500 legally. Even according to Mav's own website they are saying on the average $45,000 to $52,000 your first year--I will venture to say that the guys here that have been to Mav will probally dispute these figures though. You are not gonna get $.30 no touch either for at least 6 months. And no matter where you go, you will be with a trainer for a least 6-8 weeks for approx $500 per week(or less)total before taxes are taken out, so you may want to buffer yourself against that.
Get used to the DAC, every company out there uses it. Also, why would you get stuck as a co-driver forever?? I am not a O/O, and I have never been a co-driver with anyone, so Im not sure where you get that from. And if you think that you are gonna save $20,000 a year--then you are a better saver than anybody that I have ever met. Your pay goes up, and so do your exenses.

That's funny. One of the newer glass drivers called me last week. His first couple weeks was a little rough, but he told me he took home 900 bucks that week. He has only been solo about a month. You might want to check mav's pay scale.

He's lucky--but that is possible(never said it wasnt) but not consistent--if it is then Mav is paying drivers a lot better than even they claim to be.

-My rookie year there...lower-mid $40's and I screwed myself into running all their short loads...so that would put me at the bottom of the average.
-Time in trainer truck- 2 weeks. Because I had paid for and gone to my own school.
-Time in the barn- 2 weeks.
-grossing 1k or at least close on average a week in my opionion is possible....i better stick to saying 'close to'....and with the tax break (per diem)...to someone who isn't used to that x-tra money in their check....and lives right...it seems like more.
You may be wrong on some of what your saying, maybe.

And don't let my DAC and driving record immply anything about pay and trainer truck time or on the company....I made mistakes of running way to hard. (Now I have other issues with the company- but they dont refrece what your talking about).
