You know in advance that you need a CDL. Endorsement are not required to drive a truck except for air brakes. If the company wants you to haul hazmat then yes they should pay for that endorsement like mine does. They also pay for my DOT physical.

Like I said. if the company says in orientation here is a list of items you will need to pay for to work here, then fine the driver has a choose. But if you hire them and then say we want you to go to Canada so go get a passport and we want you to load at the port so buy a twic and it is a hazmat load so swing by and pay for that then the company should pay for it.

Last time I checked a cook does not bring his own pots and pans to the restaurant. But yet a truck driver should pay the company so they can service the customers and make a profit.

What is happening is the company faced with new regs is passing the cost on to the drivers. Plain and simple.

Well, I can not say whether the OP was quoted what he would need or not but I'm sure that at some point I would have asked, other then that I can not discuss his issue further.
As far as a company paying for endorsements, I'm glad you found one that does, I got my TWIC from a previous employer so I can't complain there and I've had my Haz endorsement since the CDL laws were enacted and prefer to maintain it whether or not I need it, same with my passport since I like to travel! As far as the company paying for my CDL I WAS being sarcastic to prove a point but I guess I couldn't expect anyone to know that since it's print....

Either way, good luck to you and drive safe! As far as Oakley, maybe I'll give them a call, play dumb and see what the recruiter tells me... Nah, wouldn't be fair to waste his time since I'm not looking for a job....

Pay for the equipment needed by the company to be able to perform your/their job?

FAIL! or NOT IN THIS LIFETIME!

Unless I lost it because I did something stupid? Yes, that I'll do, as it must have been my fault because I did not secure it properly as long as there was a way to keep thieves fingers off of the equipment. OR , I broke it because I did not pay attention in class on the proper operation of how to hook a hose up and how much pressure the tank can handle before it blows a seam or hose out! Then the driver needs to pay the price! It was his fault for doing something wrong. Hint: Do not think any question about the safe operation of tank equipment or any truck related equipment is a dumb question. Any question not asked becomes a dumb operation! Ask any thing that comes to mind. As the saying goes if there is the slightest doubt in your mind it needs to be addressed before poop happens!

I also agree to have a $500 or $600 escrow account as long as it comes back when I quit. If not then that amount will disappear form their yard. I do NOT pay for stuff that I do not have! I do not let someone steal from me! it becomes a swap! My money for your stuff unless you would rather give me the cash! It's called barter! I WILL win in this situation and yes I have won!

I guess there are a few more questions for your phone interview of any company to see if they are good enough for you to drive for them! Remember, the phone interview is for YOU to ascertain if that company is worth sitting on a buss or driving to for orientation not them to ask you question until you have satisfied you need to know. You go first and if happy they get their questions answered. It saves time for the both of you!

Ask them if they charge you for equipment before or after it is lost. NOT STOLEN! That is another question or questions!

Oakley is a tanker company so next question is. Are the hose racks secure to prevent hoses or caps from being stolen and are the side boxes able to be secured with a lock?

The next one would be (it's also is covered in another thread) do you keep an escrow account and if so do we get it back when we terminate our employment?

Now remember, I always preach cover your arse and the best way is with pictures of that truck before you even open the door! Those are good, BUT the ones you take when you turn the truck in is what counts when BFI says it was trashed or 10 tires were missing or whatever some of those morons try to say is wrong as Bottom Feeder humans do to line someones pockets or get the brown nose browner! But, you have pictures of a nice clean with all it's parts on it in front of or in the inspection bay or shop!

Those questions should cover the important stuff and give you the ammo as to weather you want to go to that orientation and their company.

none of what i wrote is a lie and i forgot to mention that you also have to pay for the mattress for the truck...they give you a 3-1/2 inch thick piece of foam ..and they will gladly sell you a mattress for 259 buck...

Do they MAKE you buy their "yoga mat"? If I was stupid enough to finish orientation and stay there.....I would say "no thanks", I will buy my own 8 inch matress elsewhere for $169.00 (more than twice as thick for nearly $100.00 less).

However; I agree with Rollover "FAIL! or NOT IN THIS LIFETIME!" I would have walked out of orientation.

If it's bad enough you can always fall back on the 20 pieces of ziplock baggies! That will cost them what they owe you BUT it will also cost the poor slob stuck in that truck after you, so that's only good if it's a small company and the boss has his own truck! Then it's a great pay back!
