I want to tell you about one of the many companies who recruit you saying "Their just one big happy family, and now your part of that family". Zumstein-Cheeseman trucking out of Lewisburg Ohio is one of the worst. When I hired on they, as part of the indoctrination process had us all take a tour of the dispatch office. There I met the company "Cheerleader". He was an ex deiver who had been seriously injured by a bundle of baled cardboard falling off the trailer on top of this poor guy. He was pinned under this bale for over 45 minutes before they could safely lift it off of him. He suffered terrible injuries to both his back and legs. While he was laying in the Hospital for weeks the "Family" owners of Zumstein-Cheesemen assured him that of course he was now going to be taken care of for the rest of his life, if only he did not get a Lawyer and sue. This guy thinking that all trucking companies were honest and above board agreed. The company stood by their word and trained this driver to be the night Dispatcher. He was in constant pain but being now a part of "The Family" he felt at least he was protecting his job and his own family by not suing. Now comes the good part. The "Family" waited until seven years (to the day) had passed since this guy was crushed under the cardboard bale and then when the time window to sue had passed they walked in and fired him. No pension, compensation, or settlement of any kind. This guy cannot find a job for an ex trucker who lives on pain pills of course. I say all this so that you may think twice before placing the good of the Company before the good of yourself. Lawyers are not the only scum of the Earth, sometimes their right in yur own "Family".

Hey "overthehill" I know this company very well and I know the guy your talkin about. Yes they are very shifty and if you don't stay one step ahead of them they will make your life a livin hell!! Believe me I'm living proof to the fact. It used to be a really great place to work until the son took over full rein of the place then it all went to hell!! I could go into some real details but this aint the place, I've delt with those people for more years than I care to think about!!!:biggrin_2552:

TruckerJo; You do what you want but, I assure you this is NOT the place to go to if your lookin for a place to stay for a while. Believe me when I tell you that they have more ways to take money from you than you can think of. Everything they tell you goes right out the window as soon as you leave the terminal. They got one of the best "Liars" in the business as a recruiter. He is a snake in the grass and will sell you out the first chance he gets and will not back you up on anything that he tells you. Without going into details this is all I can tell you. Please do yourself a favor and don't waste your time and effort. If you have a family relying on you this is definently not the place for you. Good Luck in whatever you decide to do, I sure hope this helps with your decision.:biggrin_25516:

I trust your opinion.... 26 years you may know a little about trucking :biggrin_255:

2-3 years ago I used to run into several drivers that worked for them.. They really liked it and said they was treated really well.. Things can change in a flash..

I am digging here LOL trying to find a decent company to work for..

TruckerJo, I am truly sorry to rain on your parade but if I can save someone some real heartache by sharing some of my own true to life dealings with these people than so be it. If I can help in any other way feel free to e-mail me. I'll do anything that I can not to steer you wrong. One of the main reasons I joined this site was to help some of the newer drivers like yourself, not to make mistakes that will cost you in the long run. I hope you understand what I'm trying to say.:biggrin_25512:

Every company is a good place to work until the kids take over.

Mack, I understand what your saying and although that's true, this guy has taken it to a whole new level. I can't even begin to tell you of some of the stunts he has pulled just in the past few short years. It has gotten so bad that guys that have been there their whole career don't know if they will be there tomorrow. It's sad because alot of the guys have given the best years of their life to them, and now are almost too old to look for something else.:biggrin_25513:
